Siri comes to Android...

Just been reading this article: Iris brings Siri to Android (Wired UK)

Quote:
iOS 5's voice recognition feature, Siri, has been much admired since the launch of the iPhone 4S, but now Android users can get in on the action too. A team of Android developers led by Narayan Babu has built a clone of the feature.

It's named Iris, which is an inverted backronym of "Intelligent Rival Imitator of Siri". They took just eight hours to put the app together, thanks to Android's already-existing deep voice control support. As a result, the work predominantly revolved around building an interface, hooking up sources of information and coding in some heuristic humour.
Who's seen/heard/tried the app? I'm going to go and download it now

I've been using it since a week or two. Not really perfect, but yeah, it can recognize all English accents. I mean, it even accepted my Indian English accent.. But, the most irritating this is that it doesn't really talk to you. It only gets you info most of the time. It's still in Alpha, so a lotta improvements can be expected. Believe it or not, I was just trying IRIS a few moments before you posted this..

I though t everyone was up in arms saying android built it first and it had been in BBs for ages before Apple did it... or was that not true?!

Google has implemented speech recognition ages ago and is a basic function for all android phones - not too keen on IRIS though, trialling a few others atm, maybe skyvi next...

Can't see this lasting long, Apple will clamp down on copyright for this.

iPhone4Matt will become famous soon enough
Also on a sidenote, SIRI has been ported to iPhone 4 and 3GS but they are just trying to find a legal way to share it right now. I.e a way for us to extract it from the apple software ourselves, rather than hosting the files online.
