iPod Nano 1'st generation recall

Apple are doing a recall on some (or all?) 1'st generation iPod Nano's, and giving you a free replacement. Some say this replacement will be a 5'th generation one, others say it will just be a refurb 1'st generation, no one really seams to know what you will get, but even if its a 1'st generation I would have thought the cover would be scratch free!

To find out if you have an affected model goto Apple - Support - iPod nano Replacement Program and enter in your serial number

Yeah I read somewhere its between September and December of the year they came out are the affected models.

I don't quite understand 1: why they're only doing this years later 2: why they're doing it, I doubt there's many around still in use!

Though I'm tempted to go get one off eBay and each angle it for a new one

Saw this on HUKD, someone claimed they got a ipod touch however other claim they have a load in a warehouse so i wouldn't be too sure! Wouldn't want to get one to have it replaced with the same model!

I think its a bit late as well, they only bowed down to pressure because the Japanese have pushed for it for years. This could be a way for apple to increase units shipped figures by saying that these replacements are "sold" nano's. who knows?

I've just been speaking to a live chat operator on the apple website and they were unable to advise whether the replacement would be another 1st gen Nano or a newer model.

Id be happy with a fresh battery in it, a couple of years of use will have worn it out anyway

Not true. The operator said they are sending out replacement ipods but it's not yet known whether they will be 1st gen or later gen models.

On the actual webpage it says a replacement too as it states that if it has been personalised then it will be replaced with a normal one hence they give you a new one.

Mine is an affected ipod, they'll be sending out a pre-paid envelope for me to send my ipod back and then it'll take upto 6 weeks for me to get my replacement
