I get very few refs at all, but when I do get them my ratio is around 1:20

As for the camera, differences, if any, will be seen on a big screen, when comparing photos from iPhone 4 and 4S. And speed/graphics will be tested when big gaming etc. apps are used.

Anyone else notice iOS 5 eats up your battery a lot faster than before? I'm down to 23%. I used to have 50%+ by the end of the day with the same sort of usage!

Yeah, it was like that on my 3GS and on my 4S when I got it. Check your location stuff, disable anything that's not used/you don't want used and then do the same for the system location settings as well.

Obviously you should always let your phone charge to about 5% before charging up to 100%, and you should leave it plugged in for about 2 hours after 100% to keep the battery healthy.
