Website idea- input needed :/

First, i'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I couldn't find the correct place to post this (Assuming "Website Discussion" is for Freebie Sites).

So i had an idea for a website. It's still new but before i look into it further i would be interested to see what everyone else thinks of it.

The concept is simple: "gamers get competitive so why not make money from that?"

I'm thinking of a site where people can play there Console games (Cod, Halo, Counter Strike) against each other and bet against random people around the world.

The first thing i thought off when this idea came to mind is that there wouldn't be enough trusted players, but then i though about Exceem trades, Ebay, that kind of thing where, if the site is made correctly, trust can be something that players wish to desire.

An example of how the site works:

Jerry is bored, he signs into his (Website name here) account and finds another player looking for a Halo game. They both agree to wager £2 and then have a fun match. Jerry wins! His £2 goes directly into his bank account and he is no longer bored.

What do you think?

This is still just me thinking, I haven't made steps towards this yet.

I'm just wondering as I have saved some money that i want to create a big website with but I'm not sure as to what I want the site to be about.

I'm not sure if Sony would be happy with this. Check out Virgin Games. They're doing something like this (only for EA Sports games). I'm sure you'd need some sort of arrangement with Sony before you started anything like this.

I'll look into that but i would expect that you wouldn't. Mainly because of all the competitive gaming teams around the world. I doubt that all of them have to get Sony's permission.

If your going to go on a trust system then the people with higher trust or rating status would logically be the more experienced gamers because they have been around longer; therefore people would hesitate playing the trusted players as they will only lose and play the less trusted which makes the system useless.

How much money have you saved exactly? This would cost a lot to make.

I don't really want to say on a forums, it isn't freebie related money but my budget is more then a few grande.

I was also thinking of a skill rank metre (1-10 or something) so you know how good a person you're challenging. This could all be too much though?

One thing I will say, and this is not directed at lizzyyp, is that people often underestimate just how much it would cost to have a site like this coded and then advertised sufficiently to get a decent user base up and running.

Unless you hit the ground running with something like this then you are going to get a handful of people in the beginning who will get bored of playing each other very quickly unless new people join, and getting new customers isn't always as easy as it sounds.

yea the website would be hard to set up. you would need servers possibly to hold the data of the users, which costs money. it will also be time consuming and may not work. just like cruelworld said.

If you have a few grand to throw about then look at having a white label website. scratchcards are profitable, all you do is buy a domain name then pay for the white label which is a prebuilt website all ready to go with everything in place all you do is promote it, more people buy the cards more money you make.

As to Havez's comment, i'll look into that too, i just don't want to be another site that's the same as 100 other sites.
