you will probably need to put the disk in and then reboot. When it reboots you should get the prompts...or have you already done this?

Go into your BIOS settings and make sure that your system is set to reboot using your DVD Rom as 1st boot device.
Then follow the prompts.

Yes, put the discs in and then reboot. Some laptops automatically boot to CD if there is a bootable CD in the drive, while in others you have to press a button at startup to do that.

sorry for double post but I seem to remember when I restored my step daughters Toshiba satellite that I had to insert the disk then switch off the computer.

Then, I restarted and held down the F12 key until I got a menu. On that menu, use the cursor key to select the disc drive and press enter and hopefully it will then start.

Depends on how a system is set up.
Boot devices determine what happens.
Set a system to boot from DVD Rom first, then HDD second and it will boot from DVD first, and if there is no disc in the drive then it will skip to HDD.

Set it to boot from HDD first and it will totally ignore the DVD drive.

Can even set then to boot from USB if you want.
