How long do you revise for?

So this is a thread inspired during my break of revision for A2 mocks. I've never really properly revised until now and have noticed that I can't seem to keep focused for longer than 30 minute blocks. So I usually end up doing 30 mins revision, 10 mins break. Rinse, repeat.

So...

How long do you revise for at a time?

Psychologists have done research which shows that the average human can only concentrate fully on something for 20-30 minutes at a time, so what you are doing seems pretty sensible.

I used to have a similar schedule, though I could never motivate myself to revise until 2 days before an exam!

well at A2 we were told to do 21 mins of revision and then 5 mins off.

at uni its totally different. i have been trying to do my revision for days now, or weeks overall and i have done nothing. and that is bad for a final year undergrad.

what i do is make a checklist. having it in front of you helps to visualise what needs to be done, but this works on certain subjects.

I am retaking my A2's this year and have started doing 4 hours a day.

In 1 hour chunks, with the specification next to me so i know what I want to achieve, then i cover my notes and test myself, go back to notes if anything is wrong them cross it off the specification.

Fingers crossed this method works.

Depends how far off the exam is, if its two weeks away i'll revise one hour a day for the first week then two hours in the second week with loads of hours in the day just before the exam.

Yeah I remember reading that somewhere too, makes me wonder why my media exam is 2 and a half hours.

I'm like you also, my exams are tomorrow and I've only started revising yesterday. One of them is a history retake as well so I've got to try and recap a whole year before tomorrow!

I normally leave my revision until like 1 or 2 weeks before the exam, where I'll revise for about 1 hour a day, then bang out 4 hours of revision the day before an exam.

I've been up all night revising for an exam on friday, as I only started yesterday. Some last minute panic revising!

Funnily enough the exam is about time management!

I revise straight all day with maybe 15 mins x2 for breaks and a half hour for lunch. This is usually for 10 working days before exams as this is the time that we have off before. Weekends are playtime.

Just thought I'd say I did my exams today, don't think I did too badly on my politics module but I failed pretty hard on history.

I can retake both in June if required anyway, so no biggie.

For my A2 exams, I revised hard, started like 5 weeks before, got to the library for 9 and stayed till 4 or 5. Worked out in the end as I got A's.
