| iPod 30gb | Virgin unveils 100Mbit/sec broadbandVirgin have done it again! Virgin have unveiled plans to roll out 100Mbit/sec broadband to new and existing Virgin customers. Virgin Media has said its 100Mbits/sec broadband will start to arrive by the end of this year, and cover 13 million homes by mid-2012. The fibre service will allow 100Mbits/sec downloads and 10Mbits/sec uploads, and come with new routers that allow up to 400Mbits/sec connections. The superfast connections will cost £45 a month without a bundle, or £35 per month alongside other services, such as TV packages and phone bundles. Virgin's rival, BT plans to start rolling out its 100Mbits/sec service next spring. Read more:Virgin unveils 100Mbits/sec broadband | Broadband | News | PC Pro. By December, 200,000 homes will get the connections in West Yorkshire, North London, Surrey and Essex, a Virgin Media spokeswoman said. Customers can check if their neighbourhood will eventually get the service here. I can't recieve Virgin as I live in an uncabled area. |

Tv wise, it is a great difference, i used to have Sky and used to pay £50 a month for the normal sky channels and movies. If you wanted the rest the you would have to pay even more! With virgin, you get the whole package Sky is offering for a few quid.

| Looking for a new job!! | I work for Virgin and must say that the 50Mb is not crap. I have it myself and it is very good. If you are having issues with it then feel free to PM me your postcode and I can do basic checks into the network in your area and let you know if there are any local issues causing your experience to be less than expected.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I don't get it.. When I check my postcode here -http://shop.virginmedia.com/check-your-postcode/ it says that I'm not in fibre optic area, but when i check it here - Up to 100Mb broadband - Virgin Media it says - "Strap yourself in, because up to 100Mb broadband is coming your way! As you’re in a fibre optic cable area, soon you’ll be able to enjoy our fastest broadband ever." |

| Looking for a new job!! | It could be an issue with the postcode checker. It happened when we launched the 50Mb service. It told everybody that they were in a non cabled area. If you want a definitive answer I can check it for you on the internal checker.

If you are paying for a 50mb service then you need to get Virgin to sort it out. I've been with them for donkey's years and had excellent service and speeds.

| Looking for a new job!! | Do they all have access to the broadband? If so then one of them could be hammering the bandwidth with torrents or other downloads/uploads causing your connection to be slow. As furbs says though if in doubt call us and we will look into it. Just hope you don't get through to me......only joking

| Looking for a new job!! | If you want me to check it without you needing to call pm me your postcode. The house number would also make it easier but is not completely necessary.

![]() ![]() | I recently got upgraded to 50Mbs for free as part of a deal... and they gave us a new modem and router. But, they are really crap. They are made by D-link and make my laptop really slow. and i never get the full 5 bars on it.

![]() | Have you thought about just using your old router, or buying a better one? |

| Looking for a new job!! | does your laptop have a Wireless G or Wireless N adapter. If it is Wireless G then you will only ever get about 27Mb from a wireless connection as they run at 54Mbps half duplex meaning you only ever get a maximum of 27Mb minus overheads. Also if any of your devices are Wireless G then the signal will revert to G and no matter if you have Wireless N on every other device the maximum wireless speed will be 27Mb. The router channel should be changed to channel 1 or 11 if using any wireless G adapters as it will give a more stable connection. To do this 1. Go to http://192.168.0.1 2. Log in using username 'admin' and no password unless you have set one yourself 3. Click on Wireless Setup 4. Choose Manual Wireless Connection Setup 5. Disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup 6. Change the Wireless Channel to 1 or 11 7. Click Save Settings. This should give a more stable connection. God it's like being at work...
