Some parts of India get bare crap levels of speeds. However, when i went last time, in urban areas they install each new housing complex with fibre optics so they dont need to do it later on.

I guess just the rural areas are suffering.

Nah, I live in Mumbai, and that's the maximum speed the Government carriers can offer for $12 a month...

So basically over the past month or two we've been with Sky for our broadband, phone and TV. While the TV is good, the line speed is so ridiculously slow on our broadband that we've kindly asked Sky to cancel it without charge. Sky agreed but now we're having to look for a fibre optic service provider instead.

Can anyone point me in he right direction as to the best deals at the moment? I'm basically just looking for the cheapest deal at a reasonable speed. Not the best of the best, but decent you know?

what was your speed with Sky?

I'm sure I saw an advert about BT having a winter deal but am thinking, your phone line may not improve your speed whoever you go with coz maybe your live was installed by BT (openreach) on behalf of Sky anyway so your line would be the same.

That's why I'm looking at fibre optic broadband. The poor speeds (average around 40kb/s) are due to the exchange being about 11km away, whereas the fibre optic hub or whatever you call it is slightly less than a mile away, and from what I hear, fibre optic broadband barely drops any speed over distance.

Thanks arctic, that's actually helped out quite a bit. Hopefully I'll make enough money to foot the bill by the time I have to switch.

I use virgin and i get the 30mb/s they supply, don't have any problems with them. I like the fact i get what they advertise and not a third or quarter of it!
