Need help with English!

Hey guys, im improving my English coursework, and i am pretty rubbish at it so i just want to ask, is the semi-colon in the right place? does this sentence make sense?

"Iago, however, speaks more lines than Othello; in fact, he speaks more lines than any character in this scene"

Cheers

Yes that is correct, although a full stop would also work. But as is reads correctly.

(dad's a writer and says so!)

I'd go for a full stop over the semicolon.

not sure about the comma after in fact?? I do not see the need for it.

I did my O-level 26 years ago!! I am turning into a punctuation Nazi!!!

Nah, the comma is because "he speaks more lines than any characters in this scene" is the main bit, and the "in fact" is just added on.

Edit: Look at this article about commas and search the page for "in fact".

They don't actually talk about it, but they always put a comma afterwards, and seeing as they are experts talking about comma usage I'd presume them to be correct!

shouldn't it be either "the most lines" or "more lines than any other character"?
