Puppy with liver shunt

Hi folks, in a bit of a sticky situation here. We bought a puppy before christmas, a short legged jack russell terrior called evie. She's been acting rather strange for the last few days so we took her to the vets and had a load of tests done.

The results showed indicated that she might have a liver shunt and is basically poisoning her self with her own blood. We've been refered to a specialist near leeds were she will need to have an operation to fix the shunt, we've been told this will cost us between £1,600 and £2,000 which we can't really afford.

We don't want to put her down and would do anything for this not to happen (ie take out a loan etc) but before it comes to that we're trying to approach chairities/fundraisers like blue cross/ rspca etc to see if they can do anything for us. We have no problem paying for the operation, we just need to raise it by next wednesday for when we take her to the specialist near leeds.

The problems we've found with the rspca/blue cross etc is they will only help those on benefits which we are not.

Has anyone here ever experienced anything like this before and had success with receiving help?

I've not posted this begging for anything from any of you, i was just wondering if any of you knew of any organisations i could contact that may be able to help us.

Any advise would be greatly appeciated!

Thanks.

ive just had one dog put to sleep but the run up cost me over £800 the vets allow you to pay monthly so I would ask the vets who are going to perform the op if you can pay by instalment's.
we use beechwood vets who work with Abbey House.

It's Abbey house that we've been refered to, we asked them over the phone this morning if we would be able to pay in installments and they said no, after checking with their accounts department.

They've said it may be best for us if we keep her on antibiotics for the next few weeks/months until we have raised the money for the operation but we can't do that. She's not settling at all and is showing neurological symptoms even with antibiotics.

We've been told to ring another rspca number and see what they say but we've been unable to get through to anybody all day, hopefully we'll be able to get through to someone soon!

Sorry to hear about your dog Harv, which breed was he/she?

Was a white boxer dog, the daughter to the other boxer we have.
ended up with Cancer, could have spent thousands on treatment but wasn't prepared to put her through more than she had already suffered. the outcome would have been the same just prolonging it and watching her suffer wasn't an option for me.

have you thought about insurance, our pet insurance covered us for all of the ops we have had to sort out for our dog over the years.

all you pay is your premium which can be done over months, and the excess which ours was about 80 quid.

Although it may be difficult to get insurance knowing that your dog is already ill.might be worth a try though

We've looked into insurance but once you've got a diagnosis they don't want to know, which is understandable really! lol

I think the only way of us getting help is to say it's not our dog but our grandmothers dog etc as they have a pension and would be eligable for help from the organisations above.

If it keeps your dog alive I don't think a white lie is too bad.
