Scammed!!!

Cant believe I have fallen for this of all the people in the world, I thought I was quite wise to internet scammers and stuff like that but this seemed so real...

Basically I answered an advert where someone was selling an iPhone 3GS for £200 - the advert had only been up 10 minutes so thought I was just lucky. We spoke via facebook/email and even on the phone so I was convinced they were legit...

So I transfer the cash into the account via bank transfer straight from my bank, they were still in contact and said they would pop it in the post the next day and supply a tracking code etc etc all was gravy as far as I was concerned and started to get excited...

Today, I got up early as I knew the package would arrive before 1pm. The package arrived - my housemate signed for it and handed me the box. I initially knew there was something up due to the size and weight of the package. I opened it up and its a CHEAP FAKE CHINESE SHODDY PIECE OF CRAP SCIPHONE!!!

I feel so stupid - had a look on the internet about what to do and it looks like I cant do anything. I'm such a moron. The only light at the end of the tunnel is that it looks like these fake iphones sell for around £50 on ebay so should be able to get something back that way.

I just wanted an iPhone

Rant over. Thanks for reading - any advice is welcome especially from you lawyer types.

Dave

Sorry for double post but if anyone has any suggestion what I could do with the scammers account number and sort code then fire away...

I also have a rough idea of where they are based.

My advice would be to take as much personal information from their facebook etc as you can, just in case you need it.

Email or telephone them and politely ask for a refund, or else you will contact Trading Standards and the police. Read them out a list of all the identifiable information you have on them: email addresses, the sort code and account number (with which you can only set up a direct debit), name and location etc.

You must feel so crap, such a horrible feeling when you've been swindled!

NOOO WAIT...this happened to me..if you have paid via card or bank transfer you are protected by visa...they will give you all your money back.

However if you paid cash they will class it as cival dispute and you will never get your money back.

Well I am going to ring Barclays now who I bank with.

The facebook account has been deleted - I am guessing the email address was a fake one and they rang from a withheld number. Its not enough to get the police involved really - I just want my £200 back really.

@Crazy - are you sure I can get my money back? I only paid with a bank transfer from a current account.

It's not enough to get the a SWAT team, the A-Team, the Hoff, and Chuck Norris involved, that doesn't mean you shouldn't threaten your scammer with them, and anything else you can think of!

Edit: I don't know whether this is worth reading at all: http://www.swarb.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=964

It doesn't seem to have much useful information but might fill in a couple knowledge gaps.

I dont really have much solid information on the person other than a 'possible' name and their account details.

Would rather not go through the palarva of having to go and give statements to police as they are busy with much more serious stuff than some idiot lossing £200 bangers to a scammer.

Oh well - Live and Learn eh?

I know people said - if it seems too good to be true it usually is - but thats what I thought about FreebieJeebies once upon a time.

You say you don't know who they are, but if you transferred money don't you have the account details which you sent it to?

I thought you were only protected if you paid with a credit card

Sorry to hear about that mate. £200, that's gotta suck

What can I do with them?

What has your bank said? That would be the first thing I would do. Speak to the bank, they will tell you what you are covered for.

Feel free to PM me everything you know about him, I'm up for a bit of digging. Include his name on facebook, the link if you have it too. The internet holds a lot of information for a long time...there is always something to be found.

Normally when big time scammers scam people they use victims details so they will never get caught..

The chances are that over 10 people have falled for the same scam and the villan has made over £1000 in a days work..Wasnt only you mate ...

And when you pay by card or bank transfer you are protected 100%. this is because electronic payment are reversable. You may have to get the police involved or open a case to get your money back bt..this is because the bank is going to need a crime number before they release the funds to you.

Under the data protection act the police will have to speak to the bank to releas his details ..so they can take action against him

he will only get away if you let him mate...

All you have to do is provide them with the

Sort code: XXXXXX
Account Number: XXXXX

And the name: XXXX

then the police and the bank will do the rest...
