Is the Kindle worth buying?

Amazon.com: Kindle Wireless Reading Device (6" Display, U.S. & International Wireless, Latest Generation): Kindle Store

Worth buying? Or worth the freebie sites adding it to the available gifts?

I like the idea of them but i think the cost is prohibitive for me. Obviously if people can get them as a freebie then that goes out the window but i guess for the same number of greens you can get something else.

Not sure whether there would be a market but can't hurt adding it to a site.

Totally agree with you, especially as books for it cost $9.99 (although I am sure they can be sourced free!).

As the most popular ever product on Amazon.com, I just wondered if it would help attract USA sign-ups.

The Kindle will explode in the UK over the next few years imo.
It's definitely worth putting on the gadget site.

Good if you enjoy/think you will enjoy reading older classic books which are cheaper or free. Otherwise paying more for the ebook than a new release doesnt make much sense atm on top of the cost of the device.

I think a rental service (for the ebooks) would be a good thing really...

Then again Apples new tablet is supposed to be marketed at this market aswell.
Either way, books, mags, newspapers etc will all be going digital over the next few years. It just makes sense.

The issue for UK sign ups would be that at the moment there is an international version but you buy it from Amazon.com meaning you would have to pay the import tax notwithstanding it is a freebie.

I guess the networks could do a BT to cover the cost of this but it's an awkward way of going about it.

Though for US sign ups it sounds great, didn't realise it was so popular!

I will definitely be adding it to some of the sites.

I currently own the Sony Reader 505 and its awesome!! I never rated them before but until you have seen one in the flesh, you cant comment. The Sony Reader use real ink technology and it basically looks and (sort of) feels like an actual page.

Ive read several books on there now and I love it. I can take 1000 books on holiday!!

I read earlier that the import tax is £41 for the Kindle.

Kindle

They're a great idea if you're going on holiday and the airline has strict weight restrictions. I usually take at least 4 or 5 books which takes up a lot of the luggage allowance. This way I can take as many books as I want to.

Is that my new name?

I got an iPad for Mrs Furbs but didn't think it was worth the money if you already have a laptop and phone.

Got the new Kindle from FJ, arrived last week. It does exactly what it says on the tin, a great book reader but no fancy add ons.
