ebay.COM Tax?

Is there any way to estimate the import tax or whatever if I was to buy some headphones from an eBay seller in the states?

I'm talking a price difference of about £50 between the phones I'm looking at and what I could get them for here....they are specially designed to clip into my snowboard helmet see

Cheers

But it's a gift isn't it *wink wink*, if there's no invoice in the pack and marked correctly as a gift then there's isnt' tax right?

Have you ever had to pay tax when it has been marked as a gift?

If it's marked as a gift you don't have to pay import tax. But even if it's a gift, if it's worth over £36 you have to pay VAT on it at the normal rate of 15%.

Source: found that out the hard way when I bought a monitor on ebay.com and thoguht i was saving a load of money

I've had stuff shipped to relatives in the USA who've sent it to me as a gift before. It saved about £20 on the shipping, so if you know anyone over there its worth it

(Unless you can just get it marked as a gift straight from the person selling it of course )

When i bought from a USA website before, they said that there was no way of knowing what the tax would be, i got a invoice about a week after the transaction (my parcel had been delivered).

The tax was something like £8 for a £80 order which i found reasnoble as it worked out cheaper to order from there rather than a UK retailer.
