New lens for my camera - but which one?

Is anyone into cameras at all?
I want to get a new lens but can't decide on the Nikon 24mm 2.8 or 28mm 2.8.
The prices are about £320 and £230 respectively but I don't know whether the 24 is better value.
ANyone got either and tell me about the sharpness, quality etc.

Cheers
Matt

If I've seen the right galleries, then everything! Some of the pictures under your name are truly amazing matty!

Mainly portraits - not a very good landscaper at all.

Delude, are you sure you've seen mine?

Hmm, maybe a mixture of yours and somebody else with the same name?

I read in one of your other posts (maybe your intro?) that you were a keen photographer, so searched your name and came across a load of funky portraits (of yourself?), and guesses that as you are from Sussex it's probs you.

I would personally go for the 28mm if it was for portraits.

Do you have a decent camera shop near by that has both in stock? if so I am sure they wouldnt mind you testing them out while in the shop and doing a series of test shots on both.

28mm is what I'm thinking, I think I'm just a sucker for wide. I've got the 50mm and the 85mm but I needed something wider.
No decent shops near me, all bloody closed down. Thanks for the advice Jon, I kinda just needed someone to affirm my thoughts.

Delude, if you saw some shots of a prick looking really serious in a series of self portraits then yes, alas, it was probably me. I was trying out lighting techniques and got, ahem, carried away.

Hehe, they look good! The 'Flipping the bird' pic is cool, focus and shadows and that (I'm really not technical with photos...lol. I'll buy a decent camera at some point and get into it though if I can understand).

I don't know if it's of any consequence anymore after all the other advise but have you thought about getting a 35mm 1.8? even better for portraits and you get really nice shallow depth of field. I bought one for my nikon d40 for £200 and love it to bits, bonus is you still get fairly good wide angle and really nice night shots. Other than that get the 28mm, £100 pounds is a fair amount for only 4mm wider angle. hope this might help.

Thanks icks, looking at those the sharpness of the 28mm is a bit of a worry so dammit, I'm back at square one. THinking the 24 mm now.

Ali, I did look at the 35mm but it's too close to my 50mm such that if I ever needed a 35mm I'd move back a bit. The wider angle, either 28 or 24, is for those times where I can't move back any further but need a fast wide angle. I've got a 10-20 and an 18-70 but they aren't fast, about 4.5 plus the bokeh isn't that great on either.

Many thanks for the help guys.
