Best way to buy Windows 7?

I would like to buy Windows 7 to replace XP with Bootcamp, but am wondering about the cheapest way to do so.

Would it be to buy Vista Home Basic now, register it and get the free update?

Thanks

Windows 7 is not out yet. You can download the RC candidate here - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win.../download.aspx

It expires next year, July, though.

I am aware of that thanks

Thing is, if you have Windows Vista Home Basic or above, from now until the release you can get a free update. I wondered if this would be the cheapest option, to just buy Home Basic and register it.

I got home professional for £64 so it would seem the cheapest way to go for home basic...

Good suggestion, but I think Windows 7 is going to do a lot of damage to Ubuntu and the likes, as it's so much better than Vista and IMO is the best version of Windows since XP. And that's coming from someone running Ubuntu and Windows 7 Beta on a dual boot.

I am just hoping that it will be good for games and the like, obviously Snow Leopard will be my main OS when it is released.

Take your pick...

windows 7 upgrade - Google Search

If you buy a vista equipped PC before the end of July (I think) then you'll be entitled to a free upgrade to Windows 7 when it becomes available. Other options are for a reduced price upgrade.

I don't see why it should be any different though. Unless MS are only giving the vouchers to PC manufacturers.

On their website, it says you can buy a Vista product to upgrade your current OS to Vista, then get a Windows 7 upgrade later

http://www.microsoft.com/uk/windows/...s/upgrade.aspx

From the small print;

Quote:
...or (2) when you purchase a qualifying retail packaged Windows Vista product from your favorite retailer. The Windows 7 Upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate editions.

Arghh, can't edit.

Thanks for that Messyhead, so it looks like you definitely can get the upgrade when just buying the OS.

I asked some salesmen about the voucher, and was just told that you register the receipt online when it is released.
