iPod Touch - 3.0 software

There's a couple of threads about the iPhone software, but here's my view of the iPod Touch software update 3.0.

STEREO BLUETOOTH

Guess what... it really is only STEREO bluetooth. You cannot connect to your phone or any other type of blue tooth because of the risk of file sharing and therefore breaking itunes rules.

PEER TO PEER GAMING

Don't exactly use this and not many people I know have an iTouch so kinda pointless personally.

LANDSCAPE KEYBOARD

Really only been able to use this once... and that was when using the internet... I thought you could use landscape keyboard then anyway?! I tried using it on Notes, which didn't work... so not impressed.

Spotlight Search

Kinda useful when you want to find that one song quickly... but how hard was it to just scroll? Just another gimick that's nice, but used once or twice.

Cut, Copy & Paste

The BIG update seller. WOW... you can do what now?!!! I've used it ONCE since I upgraded when it came out... nuff said.

AUTO WI-FI LOGIN

Did that anyway I'm sure?!

SHAKE TO SHUFFLE

Used once or twice when I first found it... looked cool... then got bored and remembered the "shuffle" button... gosh that was hard to press!

OTHER STUFF

If I haven't mentioned it I haven't used it... either that means that it's kinda pointless and not needed, or I just don't use my iPod in whatever way needs the other stuff!

WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU

1: You know you can put you iTouch on standby, then swipe to log back in without entering your passcode for a designated time inbetween (say 5mins)... not any more

2: Follows on... There is now ONE option for passcodes... click the menu "passcode lock" and you'll only see "require password immediately" you can't even turn it off!!

3: You will have to re-install many applications... they don't like the new software. Things like "need for speed", "wifinder" and many more.

4: Last but not least... it costs £5.99... to make you iTouch WORSE!!

Overall I give the new iTouch software:

5 mads... not looking good I'm afraid!

Please do comment, correct me, make you own reviews/suggestion etc.
I'd be interested to see how others have found it. I don't really want to revert back, especially now I paid £6 for it!

I upgraded mine the other day, (didnt get it from apple though).

I am glad I didn't pay £6 for it. such a rip off for very basic functionality.

Mine isnt passcode protected so I don't get prompted, and so far not had to reinstall any apps, but don't have that many to be fair.

My opinion

I really didn't know about the passcode thing! Mine is still set so that I have 15 minutes before having to enter again, I looks like the settings carried over. Luckily all my apps stayed too, and work fine.

When I 'made my iPod special' a good few months back I changed the 'iPod' label in the upper corner which stayed when I updated too, although it has gone now it looks like the general settings will carry over with backups and newer firmware.

I'm not going to bother getting the update. I'm thinking of getting a Palm Pre when they're available, so I'll not need all the extra functions on my iPod Touch

I've never really been a fan of the iPhone tbh. And I agree that the features that have now been introduced should have been in the very first iPhone, after all it's not like they've jumped forward leaps and bounds with this update. I'm afraid I just don't see any special features that it has over other handsets. People can keep talking about the amount of apps etc, but just take a looka the amount of apps that have been developed for the Symbian OS. Also I personally prefer buttons as opposed to an all-touch interface. N-Series all the way for me. Going to order myself an N86 to replace my N82 this week

I had mine set to that but it didn't carry across... was so helpful aswell!

My iPods not "special" atm. I may do after the 1 year warenty is up. Don't want to risk ruining it yet though!

Lucky! Wish I had one! Can't get past 1green atm though, no matter how many sign ups I get! So far my ratio is 1:33... I only have 1g and 33red!!
