Redistribution laws?

I was wondering if there was any sort of laws on distribution of college materials?

I was considering posting all the lecture slides tha were provided for me at my course on HTML and CSS for the benefit of others on eXceem.

Is there any law against this?

I don't think that the university would take too kindly to discovering that you had posted this in public. They'd probably say that those materials are for students of that course at their university only and distributing them without permission would be breach of copyright.

In my uni we're not even allowed to record the lecturer talking even if it's for our own use to help us study or take notes.

Crazy.
How are you expected to learn without being able to refer back to the lectures from the tutor?

It's notes from my HNC Multimedia Web Development course.

They provide powerpoints of all their lectures online for you to read and download but the main reason is they don't want to be quoted as saying something in their lectures. They only want quotes or references taken from actual books.

Hmm im sure it would be fine. If there are no copyright marks on them, im sure you would be fine.
Or you could just copy and paste the slides into your own presentation and just change the wording/ layout a bit.
I doubt they would even know if you posted them anywhere tbh, and how would they know it was you?

That much is true.

Basically, what you are doing will breach their copyright. You have certain defences like private study available to you in some circumstances but probably not in these circumstances.

BUt the question is what is the risk of them finding out, and if so what would they do? The problem is that however unlikely it might seem they will find out with it being a university the consequences could be pretty bad so don't risk it!

I thought universitys subscribed to this system that will cross reference dissertations against work thats on the internet, I can easily see some lecturers puting some of their notes through it just to see what happens.

The only way you will get a definite answer is to contact your head of school at the university and see what their view is on it. I had typed up some of my notes for my own use anyway, and while I was asked not to share them, the uni took a copy and would give them to students who missed lectures for "valid reasons" on the condition of a donation to what ever the current charity of choice of the school was.

Personally, I'd just ask the lecturer who wrote the ones you want to use. And thanks for thinking of us!
