![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)it will do.... the new mp3 format the are tryign to get together will only allow 3 copies. and each copy cannot be copied. but the only way they can do this (and microsoft IS helping to create this) is everytime you hit the copy button, it writes to the file... |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)Windows Vista will be DRM enabled......meaning you can only play legally retrieved content on your PC or Media Center. Microsoft going to bed with the Entertainment industry is gonna be their downfall imo...Hopefully Apple won't jump onto the same bandwagon |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)I could be completely wrong about this but I thought I read that Vista will search from the signed signature which permits it to be played. If there is no signature, it won't be played.. However, tbh, it did sound a bit ridiculous when I first read it - I mean, this will be a real killer shot to their own foot by Microsoft. I reckon it was prolly written by some Apple fanboy |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)mp3 files don't contain a digital signature as far as I know... it's the Media Player WMA files and the iTunes m4a (?I think that's the extension?) files that have the digital sig. Could be wrong, but that's my undertanding of it. Cheers, Tez. |

| iPod 30gb | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)if they can create a DRM protected mp3 file, that could be a bit of a kick, but it won't be compatible with all the current mp3 players so I doubt it would gain acceptance. What we really need to do is to encourage more companies to start supporting ogg vorbis on their hardware. (they will still play fine on vista btw i'm sure). I don't plan to "upgrade" to vista however, by the time XP is no longer supported I should've completed the transition to linux. |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)I think googles plans will be similar to Microsoft when IBM was top, but personally i think microsoft will see that that will happen and attempt a merge with google. Also new music formats will come out rendering the mp3 useless similar to cd's :P |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)Free national Wifi access, the agreement with Open Office, Google Base - The online OS is what Google is ultimately aiming for - and this is what is making MS cack their pants sideways. All you'll need is a light client computer - No Windows req |

![]() | Re: Trade your CDs for an iPod (US Only)The topic has changed a tad from the original post hasn't it The plan is to keep it free - like the GMail service. The idea is that you log on, there will be ad words here and there. Trust me, a free service is a lot more profitable than people first percieve Imagine you're in the street looking for a shop. With your thin client computer or phone, google will advise you where to go or cheapest place to find the item. For an example of an online OS btw, check out http://www.writely.com - an online based Word processor. Bear in mind its a bit basic atm as its just a small company but imagine Google and their brains doing their bit? |
