my laptop has a spec ? And I thought it was just the hamster inside.. Seriously though since I got my new laptop I've never checked the spec so will do so sometime before the end of the year and re-post then.

Upgrade? What's wrong with it?

OK, so it does need an extra floppy drive and possibly another 128mb memory, but that should be more than enough.

Re: What spec is your computer?

500MHz PIII - not too bad, could be alot faster thou
192MB PC100 RAM - is there an os that runs on that amount of ram ? thought most new os's needed 256mb
12.6GB WB IDE HD - small but hey you certainly make up for that with the 120gb hhd
120GB Maxtor IDE HD
16x Philips IDE CD-RW - cd-rw's are things of the past, dvd-rw is the only way
Hitachi DVD-ROM - as above
Yamaha sound card - has it got any memory of its own or anyhting ?
nVidia TNT2 32MB AGP Graphics card - are you a gamer ? if so sure 128mb at least would good

please don't take any offence to any of the above but you did ask lol

Dell Dimension 4300
Dell 17" TFT
Intel P4 1.7GHz
512MB PC133 SDRAM

40GB Maxtor HDD (Vista)

Dell Wired Keyboard & Mouse

Quite an old system (4 years) But i've added the TFT screen, speakers, ATI graphics card, sound card, 160GB hard drive over the past 12 months, oh yesterday I added the Nova-T

I built a new system for my sister over the summer, so I use that for games, and it has all the mod-cons like 64bit, DVD-RW etc

RAM - It only had 64MB RAM until about 3 or 4 months ago! It ran Windows 2000 and 98se (not simultaniously) OK. 192 is a lot better. Runs 2000 and 98se (again, not simultaneously) fine. I think Windows XP would run fine on it but I don't like XP.

CD-RW - I'm quite happy with that CD recorder. I do want a dvd recorder though as the cd recorder is a bit slow, and I want to be able to record dvds.

SOUND CARD - It's built in to the motherboard. I no absolutely nothing about it except that it's good.

GRAPHICS CARD - TNT2 is a very good card. It does the job perfectly. Never had any problem with it. Even with games.

Yeah. Some of us still like floppies. In fact, I'd be lost without one.

AMD Athlon 3000xp
Abit AN7 Nforce 2 Mobo
Geil 1gb Dual Channel pc3200 Memory
200gb sata hard drive
Liteon DVD-RW
Nvidia Geforce 6800 128mb
Soundblaster Audigy2 Platinum EX

Built and customised myself. Always upgrading it, only just got the sata hardrive. Getting a new case for chrimbo.
Really good gaming rig for the money i payed, also use it for graphic design, image editing and band recording so it's a nice spec. Might upgrade to an athlon 64 in a few months.

Re: What spec is your computer?

Oh, BTW, my computer is a Dell Dimension XPS T500. Got it in november 1999. My first IBM compatible pc. Cost about £1100 inc monitor and vat.

The screen is a 17 inch flat CRT. CRTs are better than LCDs.
