Xbox 360 red light of death

So, after 2 years of no problems the ticking time bomb they call the xbox 360 has finally given up on me.

Unfortunately for me it isn't the '3 red lights of death' but rather '1 red light of shame' which means im not covered by the extended 3 year warranty and there asking me to pay £78 to get it repaired which as you can imagine I wasn't too pleased about.

Basically the Microsoft representative told me in not so many words that if i can induce the 3 red lights then they could do it for free!

I've heard you can do this by wrapping it up in a towel to overheat it but it doesn't seem to be working.

Does anyone else have any experience with this or any advice on how to induce the dreaded 3 red lights of death?

That's because this is the solution for fixing the 3 red lights

You could try bust up the bit where the power cable goes into the xbox. Or just leaving it on in a glass cabinet... or maybe an oven really low!
Basically just get it as hot as possible so the graphics card melts. But make sure you don't melt the case (obviously).

I've done some searches, and they all seem to suggest the wrapping in the towel thing, ive not heard it being a solution for fixing a problem though.

I suppose ill just have to keep trying with the over heating thingy, i may just try the oven thing you suggested if all else fails.

Your right though, I was actually planning on getting one soon anyway.

Its just it would be a waste of the xbox live subscription and all the games i've already got if i was to just write it off.

Theres one sure thing though, Im sure as hell not paying to get my £300 2 year old Xbox repaired. ITs just the principal more than anything.
