sequencing and mixing software

Has anybody got any experience with the latest types of mixing and sequencing software available.

I used to do a bit of production with a mate, nothing serious more for fun, but we did regularly get our tracks played in a local club.

Software ive used ia dance Ejay and Cubas VST. Has an awesome 808 machine app once as well but cant remember what it was called.

edit: it was called rebirth

Was just wondering what is used these days, as I wouldn;t mind getting back into it.

cheers

Back at A-levels I worked with Cubase SX mainly (very good, well recommended and easy to use) I also used Logic a bit which was ok. There were a few new things coming out but I never got a chance to carry it on at uni. I would check out Steinbergs website for programs.

Good luck!

If you have a Mac then get Logic, it's an awesome piece of kit with all the jam-packs and instruments, etc. Alternatively you could use Garage Band which is a stripped-down version.

Cubase is also good; it works seamlessly with Reason (same company that makes Rebirth), which is something else you should get, especially if you're concentrating on electronic music production.

I personally use Protools as I do a lot of professional instrumental recording. It's a bit of an investment though as you have to buy the hardware in order to use the software (although the entry-level kit is quite cheap these days). I wouldn't recommend it for what you have in mind though!
