Carpentry help needed......

Is anyone on here any good at making things because im useless and need to make something important. Im going to be getting a Lay Z Spa and I need an insulated, waterproof casing to go around the pump.

Here's an image...

As you can see the pump is on the side of the tub and what I plan to do is take a solid oak bin and turn it upside down, cut out a pump-shaped hole on one side and put it over the pump.

What I need to know is how would I go about insulating the inside so that the cold weather doesn't sneak through? If my plan wouldnt work is anyone able to suggest a better one? Does it need to be airtight? And is oak completely waterproof for when it rains heavily.

Please help as Ive no idea what to do.
