Steam games download help

Hi all,

I've been trying to download the FM2009 demo for PC on Steam games. I installed Steam and began the download.

Before long it was downloading at 1MB per second so i left it for 10 mins to play FIFA.

When I came back it was at 93% and had slowed down to 12.5kb per second, which means the remaining 7% will now take hours to download!

Does anyone know why this might be? It seemed to slow at 10pm exactly for some reason. I am on Virgin Media.

Do you think this could be the Steam servers or my ISP?

how big is the download file?

my guess is with your other internet trafic you have been trafic shaped by virgin media, think they have some cap system on areas were demand is high in the evening hours.

In future if you do any large downloads id suggest doing them in the early hours etc

Yep, I'm with Virgin Media and mine's capped. Not sure what time it starts in the morning but my capacity is halved until 9pm. It only applies to users that download a lot.

However, I've been having seperate problems lately. I've had periods of VERY slow speeds. Like less than 20KBps.

Mines random since i download a lot stuff every day (5-10gb per day) from 2.6mb down to 345kb/s but i would guess that it coulda been steam since i was pre loading left 4 dead because it never goes above 400kb/s+ from the demo to the release game
