PO Boxes

I know this is going to make me sound really thick now but...

Are PO Boxes used the same in USA as they are here? It's just that I've noticed there seem to be quite a lot of USA people who put a PO Box in their address (which is against our T&C); I hardly ever see it with UK sign ups. So is this because PO Boxes are just more popular in USA or are there addresses that can't get deliveries in USA so they have to have PO Boxes?

Re: PO Boxes

i know for a fact that my brother and his gf use a PO Box in the USA, no idea why. Is there a reason you can't send to them though?

Re: PO Boxes

po boxes over here are generally looked upon as being well dodgy and usually as a front for a shady company or individual trying to look reputable, well in my experience anyways!

common in the us though

wrong.

As for the US PO box thingy, I think that some places have offices that mail gets sent to rather than their house and they collect it from there.

US mail is totally different from over here.

Isn't all mail basically the same. You pay for postage, the company delivers the item

You're right, PO box does not guarantee a company is legit, but then how can you ever really guarantee that? Arctic was saying that 'on the whole' they aren't dodgy. Sorry you had a bad experience, and obviously it's good for people to know to be careful.

My dad is a postie and he is in no way 'workshy', as with any company there are always a lot of people that DO work damn hard (as i'm sure Arctic does too )

Re: PO Boxes

What I want to know is whether all posties just drop the red elastic bands that keep the letters together and exactly how much money the Royal Mail wastes because of it.

Still it means I'll never need to buy another elastic band ever again.

Re: PO Boxes

Rumours about postmen dropping the items in order to 'find their way home' have circulated, but more worryingly, some postmen have claimed off-the-record that they are advised to drop the rubber bands which they are told will 'biodegrade';

Re: PO Boxes

i considered getting one at one point, and if i remember rightly they were 59.99 in the UK. Anyone can get one.

USPS - PO Box Service

the USPS say it is often quicker to recieve your mail through a PO BOX in the US, and as you can see they are a LOT cheaper than over here.
