Re: What To Eat Before A Football Match ?

Yeah, Carb load for a couple of days before hand. You don't really want to be eating in the hour beforehand so you can give food time to digest.

Again, more carbs than protein as the protein will make you sleepy (have a steak afterwards!).

I always find a fuit smoothie is a good boost before a workout, though for a football match I would watch what you put it in it as you don't want too much sugar which might cause your sugar levels to drop in the second half. Maybe stick to bananas then.

Re: What To Eat Before A Football Match ?

Pasta, Bread, Potatoes, Porridge, Bannana's

when i did the london marathon earlier this year, i got up at 5am and had 2 rounds of toast, a bown of cereal, 2 bannana's and a bowl of porridge.

The marathon started at 9:30 am and it usually takes around 6 hours for the energy to release itself (your body to digest the food) so when i was halfway round the energy started to release, giving me that extra burst.

If you are in need of short term energy burst's then Jelly Babies and Wine Gums (most sugary sweets) are great, although after experiencing a sugar high (burst of energy) you will then experience a sugar low (lathargy) unless of course you just keep scoffing the Jelly babies, then its HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH HIGH and then a massive low afterwards

Hope that helps

WAF

Funny you should mention that...

When I was a mascot for Derby County, I went into the changing rooms and they had massive industrial bags full of jelly beans that they would yam before the match... so I guess that's a really good thing to eat, so are bananas
