Xbox 360 - Worldwide warranty ? .... UK console

I am thinking of taking a brand new xbox 360 with me to south africa as a gift for family there

I am only worried if the warranty will be fine, as its UK console, can they still use the warranty with Microsoft?

The games should be fine, as south africa is also PAL format, I think this is the only thing that we need to think about with regards to the games ? nothing else about regions ? Ive never been sure about multi regions, consoles and the games.

And if anyone says, the mains voltage there is the same as here, they can either just cut off the UK plug and stick a SA one on, or buy the sa version of the cable which goes into the power brick.

Have a read of the warranty that comes with it, i dont expect many people will know off the top of their head.

I was mainly just wondering if the consoles all over the world are the same, and our uk versions just come with the uk plug, as the power brick just converts whatever mains voltage its getting, and if the consoles serial number is perhaps registered as a UK console or something along those lines.

Thing is since it's a UK console if there is a fault it's unlikely they will pay for shipping to get it sent to the repair centre.

Wouldn't it be better to call or email microsoft xbox360 instead, I am sure they can answer the question better then us here since it would mostly be a guess, unless someone actually done something similar.

Also, I think if you cut the cable and attach another plug that voids the warranty, it does normally on other electrical equipments.. unless its done by a professional electrician.. might be better just to get a replacement cable just as you suggested..

Already emailed microsoft... and errm I wouldnt think it voids the warranty to cut it off and put on a different plug, cause its a separate cable from the power brick itsself, and you dont send it with for a warranty claim, but yeah probably best to get a replacement SA cable there.
