Could you please tell me about this in more detail?

I'm with schism, if I were in a band I'd be more than happy with money from gigs, that's what the offspring have always wanted and Radiohead (although I despise them).

Thinking about it I have payed well over what you should to see just about every band I listen to. I have also been to far better gigs where albums have been free for turning up. Since albums are really only to promote the gigs in those cases that makes sense.

Can't really think of many bands whose music I have downloaded illegally other than a couple who's albums I'm really glad I didn't waste money on. If I go to a gig and the band impress me I'll buy the album, it's that simple.

I kinda feel stuff like beetles songs should be free or very cheap as I don't really care for all my money going towards paul mccartney, ringo and record labels, just my opinion.

A lot of the music I listen to is older than me, so buying the music from people who are too dead to see the benifit of the money doesn't make a lot of sense to me

These music artists don't get quite as much as you think, unless you get to the top like Timbaland and Jay Z to name a couple. And also people who download music illegally will be in the millions in the UK. It's not just a "few" and it's not sad that they are doing this. Like I said I download albums first usually if I'm trying to find new material or testing out a new band, and if i like it i buy the album. As i would be one of a vast minority who does this with no way to prove that i actually own the CDs (unless the Policemen paid a visit!!) its kinda sucks for people like myself!
The thing is downloading the album to test is no different from downloading an album and keeping it. Your still downloading the music and breeching the law or whatever. Plus im sure most of us freebie hunters out there would rather download for free than pay per track. I cant believe im hearing all this lmao i know you might think im a newb or something but seriously I bet most of you who say you agree with this, have downloaded at one point or another. We are all as bad as eachother, i dont know one person who doesnt download. I feel as though your all trying to suck up to the authorities or something.

But obviously if they come down hard on this then we will all have to stop.

PLEASE DONT NOT TAKE ANY HATRED OR NEGATIVITY FROM MY POST.

What about shops such as fopp, who allow you to return a cd if you don't like it? I thin that makes people feel much more easy about trying music they havent heard if they know it can be returned.

Hey kevin, do you have a link for fopp? i like the sound of this.

On another note, when do people ever get warned that downloading is illegal when its known as file sharing. Like everyone know its iligal to drink and drive, everyone knows not to pirate copy DVDs, but ive never seen it published or broadcasted but im glad that virgin are doing a good think by warning people 1st.

Fopp · Stores

There may be one near you.

Thay were REALLY close to shutting down this year due to piracy and a bad decision to try get greedy and open in london. but they reopened. It's the only shop I ever buy cd's from as if it's crap you can simply say so.

Point made!

And no, its OK - some of the music is alright, I just hate it when they start screaming...

It's mainly boring imo, i really can't see the musical ability that a lot of these music artists have.

I disagree and i think that these illegal music sites do have points to them as if it wasn't for them a lot of bands would be a lot worse off as that is how I and others have got into bands, by randomly downloading music to see if i like it. If piracy on the internet was stopped altogether you would see many music bands failing because at the end of the day these sites spread the popularity of a lot of music. I'm against the sites in one way, but for in another, so i kinda see your point, but still argue against it.

Also Amazon let you return CDs within 30 days of purchase

Theoretically, doesn't that mean that therefore you could just open them, burn them onto itunes, and then send them back...

?!?!??! How did Amazon come up with that idea!

Yep, quite shocking isn't it, as i bought a few albums and didn't like so sent them back and got the difference paid back in gift certificates.

Lol - bull****! Go on, tell me what kind of music you like, I bet they have no musical talent, or just play the same chord progressions in different keys, or even just sit at a computer making up the beat and then 'whine' into a mic about a girlfriend that just dumped them... in every single song.

Soooo.... you're saying they have no skill? I'd love to see you try some of these:

I like loads of bands. And to name the faves i have to name a lot and have probably missed a few!

The Killers
Linkin Park
Muse
Oasis
Feeder
The Feeling
Arctic Monkeys
Shiny Toy Guns
Pendulum
Stereophonics
Blink-182
The Fratellis
MGMT
Queen
Guns N Roses
Led Zeppelin
Alter Bridge
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones
AC/DC

And i could go on for ever... Now tell me that these heavy bands have more skill than the likes of Queen, Led Zeppelin etc. Ok, there are a few bands in there which aren't the best skillfully, but still I love them!

They might have skill when playing solos on guitars but if there are any better guitarists than Slash (from any of the bands i didn't mention) than I will apologise for my remarks and say that heavy music is wonderful after all But anyway when playing as a band all i hear from most of these bands is just noise, and I, personally, can't stand it

Ben

Re: Virgin warns illegal internet music downloaders

At the end of the day, downloading and distributing copyrighted material is obviously illegal!
However, i can see that many many people rely on this practice to make a living and i can ultimately see virgin losing alot of customers with this introduction!

It may lead to ALL isps going down this route!

In my opinion, if all ISPs do introduce this, the internet will be a better place I haven't illegally downloaded music or software for over 5 years (although I was partial to a bit of Limewireage when I was young)
