DIY RROD 360 Fix

has anyone tried any of the methods out there and can say it works?

i was offered a 360 today with RROD problems for £25, i could probably sell it for a bit more for spares online, but can't be bothered.

wondering if its worth buying to fix?

I would say yes. I was going to buy one off ebay and try and fix it up but they were a lot more than £25 even for RROD ones. I believe you can buy kits that provide all the washers and stuff you need to fix them, can't remember where from though.

I haven't actually tried any of the methods but for £25 its worth a try I'd imagine. Because like you say you could always sell it on ebay for more.

yea, they are around $20/$25 each.

but people have said that its only a temp fix and it dies again after a month.

some of the "fixes" are to overheat your xbox so the solder re-molds.

Re: DIY RROD 360 Fix

There are some tutorial videos on youtube on how to do it. Haven't tried it myself, but the videos i've seen seem to have some pretty positive comments. For £25 i'd say it's worth a go

Re: DIY RROD 360 Fix

The x clamp fix is what i did on my xbox 360 when it got the red lights. And its been working flawlessly ever since.

You have to take out the motherboard and take off the x clamps holding down the cpu and gpu heatsinks. You then put on the screw and washers and tighten the heatsinks down. The reason xbox 360s get the red lights is because the x clamps dont hold down the heatsinks tight enough so it overheats.

I remember I was just starting a computing course at college around the time pcs started having "holes" burned in the CPUs because no-one realised they would get so hot they'd need cooling fans.

You'd think manufacturers would learn to make sure chips are adequately cooled.
