Folding@Home

Folding@Home is a piece of software that you download and run in the background on your PC which helps find cures to diseases.
The idea was brought up by Stanford University, which do not use SuperComputers but rely on the general public to help them find these cures.

You can be in a team to 'Fold' for and the more people that are in that team the more 'Folding' that will be done.

I found that eXceem already had a team. I was thinking that this should be mentioned more in the forums so new members find out about it and join the team. The we can try and get eXceem high up in the rankings.

The software can be downloaded here.

Exceem's team number is 50602

Currently there is no activity on the team. Lets try and change this!

Re: Folding@Home

This has been going for years. The first place I worked, about 6/7 years ago had a team.

Does it not work to decipher DNA or proteins or something.

Re: Folding@Home

It's easy to set up.
All you have to do is download and install the software.

On the config screen that pops up on your first run just choose a username (You don't even have to register), type in the teams number, hit ok and your off!

Re: Folding@Home

I've heard of this type of thing before, but it was for SETI. I think the client I used could run a few different projects at the same time, might re-install it.

Re: Folding@Home

It be long for this site because i am a member of private site that has 50000 users but roughly bout the same rank. I wouldn't mind turning my ps3 on overnight everyday but will it cause my ps3 to breakdown for overheating.
