10 post min. for posting links?

Was just wondering, to solve the problem of newbies who dont bother reading rules, would it be possible to have a 10 post minimum before a user can post links? Similar to that of the simalert forums?

I could make it so all newbies posts have to be approved by a mod but that does mean there are periods of time while they wont be approved, and its only 1 or 2 out of 30 that are shameless link spammers!

Yea its a shame the small minority spoil it for others. That would give the mods a lot more work to do and I think it would slowly decrease the rate at which exceem grows. Its a good idea but for the small number of people who "offend" it would probably be better not to venture there. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Most do it by accident and because of the fast modding either they realise that they don't spam and then join in the forums, or they realise that mods stop them spamming and so don't visit again.

yeah, and if you set a 10 post min as an automated thing, you might well find that you just multiply the amount of spam by 10. as people who come and do it purposefully rather than just because they can't read the rules, can wack out 10 spam posts in a couple of mins.

An alternative solution would be to make sure people actually do read the rules you could do that by making sure they're displayed at sign up and then maybe asking 3 questions that have to be answered before the sign up is allowed. either about the rules specifically or maybe just insert the odd random phrase into the rules list.

Yea a Question like "Do you agree not to post referral links anywhere on exceem?" at signup would be excellent, but probably a very hard thing to get into the script?

My sister said when she signed up she had to confirm her email address and then wait for something else. Couldn't post until they sent her another email. That I suppose gives time to read the rules but then again I don't think they'd be thinking about rules!

Can you not get a mod for the forum. So when a user registers. And tries to post. The rules flash up before they post?

They do always see the rules until they register, then I think there's a reminder then as well!

Yea, its most likely people who dont care about the rules and don't know that everyone on exceem is a freebie hunter and would not in their right mind click their referral link. I think the rules are clearly displayed to any new members so its just up to the person on whether they want to deliberately break the rules.

I find it funny tbh, so keep it the way it is! They dont gain anything at all accept a possible banning and the rest of us have a laugh and think back to when we to used to spam the **** out of forums to get referals!! (or was that just me?? )

lol, i remember when i first joined exceem! I remember spamming my refferal link in the shout box, and making a thread about it in the lounge or something! I didnt read the rules quite obviously, and i was lucky not to be banned (i was on final warning by Jon).
