Not Spam - Watch Freeview channels on your iPhone

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I did a search and couldd;t find any mention of it.

Was told about this site for the iphone last night so decided to check it out.

TVCatchup iPhone

It's basically a site which has many of the Freeview channels on it to watch on your iPhone, the quality is great and I found it was only about 40 seconds behind the actual TV.

Hope this helps some people. the only thing it lacks is a TV guide.

It's not an app, you have to register though with a username and password but that's it. It doesnt send a confirmation email to you

yup, its a website which streams but I was surprised by the quality. You can see the channels it has by going to the site.

Works ok here, I only had to log in the first time as it remembers my log in details.

Am not sure if I initially signed up using my PC and then logged in that first time on my iPhone.

I have been using this and it uses a lot of bandwidth so if you are on a limited data package then be careful. If you are on unlimited still be careful as many of them have a 1GB fair usage policy.

I checked the other week when Andy Murray was playing and I used nearly 70MB in 10 minuted.

I have only ever used it when on WiFi after that

You can add a link to the page on your screen rather than having to type it in or have it as a favourite. Makes it look a bit like an app if you do it that way.

It's great quality!

I think Orange have a fair usage/unlimited policy!

Was just watching it on TV and iPhone and there's some sort of delay... not sure how long it is though. Only a few mins I think.

Thanks Arctic! (Good for boring lectures on wifi!)

Orange have a 1GB fair usage policy on their 'unlimited' service. I am with them and find that I can use it enough without breaking this but the Catchup TV would seriously push me over if I were to use this on the 3G connection

What would they do if you go over 1GB?

I've already added it to my homescreen as an webapp. I'm surpised at how smooth it is! Now I'll never miss a thing! Awesome!

You get charged a ridiculous amount of money.
It's like £1 per megabyte or something.

I know o2 PAYG would charge you once you went over their limit and take the money off your balance until it was zero.

Its a handy site for watching TV in bed, watching football in the toilet when you cant wait til half time lol. Or watching what YOU want to watch while the Mrs watches soaps, shudder

Orange's fair usage policy would mean you would likely get a warning if you broke the limit more than once or excessively. Then they would either charge you for the additional usage.

Remember they cannot charge for the additional usage unless it states on the terms and conditions page and if I remember correctly they only show additional charges for the limited packages of £15 per Gigabyte.

I will have a look around and see what I can find out

EDIT: It seems they have changed the FUP to 750MB from 1GB

Their terms state

Quote:
Mobile internet browsing applies within the UK only. Any use outside the UK will be charged at the relevant international rates. Mobile Internet browsing does not include event charges such as for ringtones or games (transport costs for these events are included). Fair Usage policy of 750MB applies. Not to be used for Internet Tethering (e.g. using your handset as a modem - separate Tethered Data bundles are available). Should you exceed this limit or if such use is detected, notice may be given and Network protection controls applied to ensure the quality and availability of our network to all customers. This may result in, at Orange's discretion, reduced speed of transmission, suspension of mobile internet browsing services and/or suspension of your account.

I actually spoke to an Orange rep about the 750mb... they said that was "an advised usage ammount" but they wouldn't charge for exceeding it.

Maybe a call to orange is needed! TBH though I'll only use it on wifi.

As I said they will only ever take action if you go massively over the limit every month so I wouldn't worry too much

okay, when i try to click Login i can see that the 'Login' button changes from standard orange to a darker shade, but then nothing? I've been signed up for months an have used it on my computer, so i have an account.

when i press and hold down on the login (as aposed to a quick click) it has a pop up at the bottom which says JavaScript with the possibilty of clicking Open or Cancle.

I've restarted the iPhone and re-synced incase there was something wrong on that front, but nothing ... i have a standard 16GB 3G if that would make a difference over the 3GS? dunoo....

pretty sad news i know!
