Telebid - any good?

Does anyone know anything about this site Auction | Cheap TV laptop ipod auctions - bid & win on TeleBid I saw a facebook advert for it and am naturally suspicious of those things

It's an auction site which seems to have some quite low prices for items, a PS3 apparently went for £60. If legit i'd pay £60 for one but wondered if anyone knew anything about it or had any experience with them?

I note that you bid by phoning a premium rate phone line so wondered if they make their money that way by making it take 10 minutes and £20 to register a bid?

Your thoughts please?!

some of the stuff looks great but then looking at ended stuff you've got a laptop with a rrp of £630.00 but it went for £1104.46

but then you've got a wii that went for £7.70 tempted to pay the £10 just to have a mess around and see if its any good or not..

Re: Telebid - any good?

Yeah I had a look at the how it works bit. You buy "bids" in packs of say 20, 40, 60 etc, and each bid is 50p so it costs you 50p for one bid on an item. However you can't bid a specified amount like ebay (i.e. £10 for example). Your bid will be an automatic one of 7p higher than the current high bid.

So the key to winning is to bid at the last minute (like ebay!) and late at night. I am intrigued too and might actually give it a go tomorrow. I'm not going out untill 11 and I reckon a lot of people won't be on if i look for something just before I go out. If i see £7.00 for a Wii i'm having it!!

its 7am to 12am bidding so u cant bid at like 3am when no one is on which is a shame, it still seems pretty reasonable though.

So let me get this straight you have to pay 50p each time you increase the bid price then if you win it you pay the final price.

Might have to give it a go tommorrow.

I know, which is why i'm hoping that new years eve at 10.45 might be a good time to strike!! I have signed up but paid no money - apparently I get £20 discount of my first winning auction, though I need to check the T&C's on that as there's bound to be a catch!

Yep, say the current bid is £5.00 you pay 50p to make a bid and your bid is automatically then £5.07. The next person to make a bid will pay 50p and then automatically their bid will be £5.14. Who ever makes the winning bid pays that price, plus delivery (which is specified), and whatever it cost them in 50p "bids" to win.

And just so no one hijacks my bidding, i'll be looking for a PS3 tomorrow - or posibly a Wii if it'2 under a tenner - so stay away!!

Re: Telebid - any good?

I just sat down and worked it out!

There is a PS3 on there currently at £105. Assuming it started at £0.00 then there will have been 1500 bids of 7p each costing 50p. This means that they have made £750 in bids so far!! Plus some has to pay £105 so Telebid are getting £855 for it!! And it still has over an hour to go!

Even if I manage to get one for £60-70 (which is my limit methinks) they will get upwards of £500 which gives them a nifty profit!!

Very clever!

Does it bother us how much they make as long as we get our bargains ?

Not at all (unless you are one of the chumps who bids straight away and never gets anything and ends up paying for everyone else's goods), I just thought it was a pretty clever idea once I sat down and thought about it.

EDIT- the people who bid with 4 hours etc to go must surely not fully understand how it works?! Why would you bid so early if you did?!

i'll give the mac a miss.. its a 100% off auction meaning all you'll pay is the shipping, so i'm guessing there's going to be a lot of bidding on it..

You just have to get lucky and be the last to bid when no one else is around i guess. I bet they make a fortune in bids on those items!

its like a couple of the mobiles are fixed price meaning you'll only pay £1 plus shipping

my only worry now is what time zone is it as there's a night auction listed but it doesn't seem to be running ?!
