A Nike+ sensor, a power breath resistance thingy, and a £34 BT.

All cam within about 3 or 4 days of requesting which is pretty damn good at this time of year!

Thanks very much!

I know that google is my friend, but are those nike+ sensors any good?? (although I doubt I can get suitable trainers in my size to use one)

Only had a quick go on it today so not had a proper try but it seemed pretty accurate when running on a treadmill, only 0.03 kilometer out of what the treadmill said on a 2.5km jog.

You can calibrate it though for greater accuracy which I will do when the ice goes and I can jog outside again.

You can attach it to any trainers, you just need a little pouch to tie in to the laces - £3-£4 on amazon.

I'm thinking of getting one of those sensors, how many referrals was it? I decided to get fit for the summer, want to go running three times a week round the streets and do all my weights work at the gym, three times a week.

It's not actually that good having properly used it. Distance wise it's about 30% out when I do a 5k+ jog (compared to the GPS on my iPhone) which isn't really good enough to help me train for a 10k i'm doing in may.

The pacer also isn't very good as it doesn't constantly measure your pace, just the pace you are doing at a given time (I think it's every few minutes) which again isn't really good enough.

The best things for running i've found so far are the following apps:-
  • C25K - which trains you up from nothing to being able to run for 30 minutes over (up to) 9 weeks (for ipod touch and iPhone only)
  • Runkeeper Pro - which is a GPS running aid with voice alerts at specified times and distances. Also monitors pace, distance, and gives a map of the route you ran (iPhone only - well, GPS features anyway)
I wouldn't bother with the Nike+ tbh, if you have an iPhone you can get the above for about half the price of the Nike+ sensor.

Yeah, its just I don't have an iphone! I might just get a few more referrals and pay for the rest of it through FJ maybe, to get an ipod touch that is which I take works the same?

So both C25K and Runkeeper Pro are both apps?

I'm doing Camp America in the summer, well probably and I want to be in top shape!

Yup, C25K should work fine with iPod touch as it based on interval training and building you up to running for 30 minutes, rather than a specific distance (though 30 minutes should be around 5k).

Runkeeper uses GPS so you probably wouldn't get full functionality with it on an iPod Touch, but it may still work as a time keeper etc but to be honest there are probably other free apps to get you running over 30 minutes once you have completed C25K (runkeeper is about £5 but is worth it for the GPS, but probably not if you can't use the GPS).

My fitness now is relatively good but baring in mind thats based on me running on a treadmill. I think I'll still start from scratch. When I do get the ipod touch i'll definitely give it a go.

Treadmill is a whole different game, much easier than road or grass running!

That said you might find week 1 of C25K too easy. I did so I started at week 4, but could have probably started even later. You'll see the program so take it from there.
