It says you don't, just have it nearby. It's just a little bit of string attached that you're supposed to tie to your bag or jacket or something. I haven't tried or tested it yet so I'm not sure how far it's range is and that.

I did think that it looked a lil chunky to go on a mobile... I might try to get one; I'm sure my 2yr would love it, lol.
