Do all pets automatically know that it's April Fool's day, or do they have to be told?

I am asking because my neighbor is filing a lawsuit against me for sexual harrassment because my dog went into his yard while his daughter was playing outside and ejaculated on her. Now he wants my dog put down because my dog "assulted" his daughter. I don't think this is fair. It happened a few days ago so I am thinking I should say that my dog was just playing an April Fool's Day joke, except I don't know how my Dog would have found out because I didn't tell him, and I don't think he can read the calender on the top of my desk (It's too high for him to read). So do dogs and cats automatically know it's April Fool's Day - Are they born with it?

By the Way: This is not a stupid question. When I was a little kid the guy who picked up the garbage in my neighborhood showed me his penis and tryed to masterbate but I didn't want to watch and I told my parents and they tried to prosecute him, but he wasn't arrested because it was just an April Fool's Day joke and he got away with it (Even though it happened in September)

So, can I use April Fool's day as an argument in my case?
