one expensive box

This is a discussion on one expensive box within the Humour forums, part of the Off Topic category; I'm sure I saw someone leave out a Viera TV box at my flat. I think I'll stick that on ...

Ouch. I bet the seller was really guilty after selling that. Then again, he did state clearly what it was...

Surely removing paypal from accepted payments for something like this is the way to go!

noober has a little shameless behaviour in the past
How retarded can they be?

There is no mention of an iPhone, only about an iPhone box, and people actually bid.
This is a good example why scammers are still relatively common, since the level of idiocy seems to be increasing.

People do actually bid on empty boxes, to increase the value of theirs if theyre selling etc... you seemed suprised anyone would bid..

But seriously, I don't reckon this guy purposely scammed anyone... although look at how he avoids the question about if he'll take 250 for it

This has made my day, thanks for posting

You mean a seller bidding on their own item to up the price?! Well true that happens but at the same time if the bidding got that high it can't all be down to the seller bidding on their own item, other people must have bid hundreds.

I thought he meant that someone might bid on an empty box as they maybe planned to sell their own item but the box they had was bashed or maybe they had thrown it out.

Perhaps, but it would never add hundreds to the value of an iPhone surely?

yeh I meant if someone was selling their iPhone, soz, my post was unclear...

No it wouldn't add hundreds to the value, but it's why people do buy boxes... it all goes back to the fact that some willy (more than one willy in fact) thought it was an iPhone

Just noticed this thread. It's not the first time I've seen empty boxes go for stupid amounts of money. People really are stupid.

Admittedly the seller is a bit vague in the reponse though. If I decided to sell an empty box and someone offered £250 for it my response would be "You do realise you are buying an EMPTY box and that there will be no iPhone inside right...?"

Just saw this:

Apple iPhone 3G S 16 Gb White Box on eBay (end time 04-Mar-10 19:30:49 GMT)

Anyone wanna go and steal the winning bid?

Seeing as it's listed identically, I'd imagine it's the same seller under a different account. Could you actually get into any trouble doing this? Surely if the bidder pays after the auction, there's nothing they can do, as it's stated that they're bidding on a box.

Or saw the original one and though he'd have a go. This seller is listed as being from Lithuania, the other was from Rochdale.

One's a poor place where they speak in a strange language and a lot of in-breeding goes on and the other is in Eastern Europe.

I asked someone about this and it seems the person who bought it may not be an idiot, he/she might have stolen an iPhone but they can only make money by selling it if they have a box to sell it in. So they buy a box for £330 and sell it for nearer £400.

I'm not saying this is what happened but apparently you have to be careful when selling boxes in case you get caught up in some thefty business...
