Yea, the 1st time I promoted in a paper I didn't see any changes to traffic. Was just a small ad but then I wasn't able to track it very well at the time.

The 2nd time I did an ad in the paper it got rejected

If you word it well enough it might work, just don't go spending £000s on full page spreads in the Metro just yet!

I think the success of ads depends on the type of people that buys the paper and the size of the area the paper reaches, so results will differ for everyone. Obviously you won't reach as big of an audience if you posted in a local paper in a smaller town as opposed to posting in a paper that distributes locally in london for example.

But if the ad you're going for is cheap enough, then go for it, definately no harm in trying! Let us know how you get on

The problem with advertising any of these incentives sites is the fact that the gifts are free. I mean, if they were just really cheap, or in-expensive, people might be more inclined, but since it's free, it's really hard to convince them it's not a scam.

One time I got a guy to sign up and then he was going to do the Inuit offer, but once he saw they required a credit card he posting this really nasty message about how I was trying to steal his information with some fake website...etc. and how Intuit was going to scam him and charge him thousands of dollars for hosting and FJ is identity theft...etc. That's just leaving out all the names he called me.... :\

Yeah, if you do advertise, do it in a place where people are really poor and desperate for free stuff or money. That's your only hope really. Here in the US, there's a rule, it it's too good to be true, then it is.
That and, anything free is a scam.

And the more you tell people that FJ is not a scam... the more they think it is... :\

So yeah, tough luck. But if you have any luck, let me know.

Wow . . I think you got really unlucky there mate, people aren't normally that hateful lol But I think its all about selling to a user and not just advertising your referral link, so maybe direct the user to your site/blog that explains everything, the more people know the more comfortable they will feel, and that its not a scam etc ...

I'm not really sure if an advert would work at all.. Because people just assume that it's a scam, or there's a 'catch'. People here in the UK always say that 'Nothing is ever free' :/

I asked because I play water polo and we are hosting a few tournaments and in the programs for said tournaments we sell advertising space. I kind of wonder if I could/should place something along the lines of "Get your free swimming/water polo supplies!" or something in there o.O
