Some points of guidance...

Ok, i've come back to this freebie stuff after almost 2 years, i managed to get a wii out of it last time round but i've picked up a lot since particularly related to Internet Marketing so i thought i'd tap out some pointers to guide people in the search for greens.

Dont get me wrong i'm no expert but thought i'd list what i think are the approaches people should look into.

1. Build a website, seo and generate traffic
blogs are the easiest to get started with if you cant build a full site from scratch pick up a blogger site with google and add a template to make it your own if you want something more exciting get some hosting and setup a wordpress account get a template and some plugins and away you go. Dont forget to ping your site with pingler. if your plan to get your own domain name dont forget to do some keyword research with googles keyword tool as keyword domains can rank better but content will be the key. have a read of forums like the warriorforum, digitalpoint or sitepoint for ideas. Dont forget web2.0 sites are your friends social bookmark using digg, reddit, stumbleupon etc and traffic will come.

2. Social networking - build a facebook group and promote your offer there or get a twitter account start following people and soon people will follow you just dont keep blasting your offer links as people will get bored you have to also provide original content and thats also goes for your website or blog.

3. Article marketing - there are plenty of article sites out there like ezinearticles, hupages and squidoo lenses all are good to send traffic either direct to your offer but sometimes its best to direct to your landing page website.

There are plenty of blackhat methods out there but i dont think this is the place for that!

In no way is getting referrals easy, everything takes time and work and you will only get out of it what you put in. So Take Some ACTION and you will be successful.

I am more an unconventional kind of guy and do not like to follow crowds.
Seems to me though that a homepage (wiki/blog etc...) is the main way to go.

Has anyone had any success with other non conventional ways?

Yes, but I can't tell you how - it would get too saturated :/

Just look at the forums and look for 'different' tips

i just need to do SEO. i have had my site up for 2 months now and not even 1 red. but im guessing that is a traffic issue.

what do you guys mean by unconventional??

i suppose all the stuff i listed is all conventional coupled with the fact i forgot to mention offline marketing like posters, flyers, postcards etc. i did wonder if its possible to print up some beer mats and leave them around local pubs!!
