Handing out books?

Alright, so heres my idea, dont know if anyones done it yet because i've only read up to page 11 in this section. I like business cards, i can hand them out, put them under windshield wipers at school, ect. the only problem i have with them is you cant fit much info on it. Maybe thats a good thing, because it keeps people intrigued, but i want to give them as much info as i can without it being overwhelming. Then earlier today i found this.

you can fit a full page worth of info on it and keep it roughly the same size as a business card. Its more interesting then a folded up sheet of paper, and it would hold my interest longer if i found one. Then off course instead of just paragraphs like a sheet of paper, each page can be dedicated to a different section, a short explanation, FAQ's, proof, photos, ect. On the bottom of each page i'm going to have my sites url, and maybe dedicate the last to pages to it as well. Once i find a photoshop template for this, or make my own, i think ill print about 30 of them and place them under windshield wipers, just to see how effective it is. Ill post back my results after a few days-weeks.

Also got a quick questions for any freebie veterans. do you primarily find one method that works and stick with that one, or just use a variety of methods. i've done both the omegle and craigslist methods. got 4 reds for omegle, and 2 greens, 2 reds for craigslist. I had really good luck with craigslist at first, but now i'm hardly getting any responses when i send out emails. So should i just find a method that works and put all my effort into that, or try a ton of different things at once? thats basically my question. Thanks.

Wow, well done on the referrals from omegle! That place is full of morons whenever I try it. What did you say to them?
As far as this method goes, don't know unless you try it, hope it works for you.

What you've just done is brilliant, you've added a twist to the business card method! That's what we like to see...

Keep at it and whatever works best for you, work on that, and try and make it work better if you can...

Tip: With business cards people where more successful if they did it to a target audience. Try handing them out around game or an apple shop.

I agree with iFZ, that's a brilliant unique idea you've come up with! When I read the thread title my first thoughts were in a book, people would lose interest etc. But in a small book like that it's great!

Not looked at the link much but might try and make my own

As for the methods, I just use one big one and put all my work into that. Building my website and SEOing it, that's what most people on here do anyway.

I found a photoshop template, so i'm going to work on that tomorrow,i dont have to be back on campus until friday so i've got some time. I spent a few hours a weekend on omegle, i managed to explain it to a few people, but almost all the time they would leave when i didn't answer asl. sooooooooooooooooo i decided to play along, and decided to transform into a 19 year old girl.. I know it was dishonest, and pretty creepy, but i was desperate. when they asked asl, i would answer "19, girl, california. but no dirty talk please, lolz!" (i dont know if the "lolz" did anything, but i made sure to add some "lol's" "LOLZ's" XD's, and even some ^.^'s every once in a while.)
once i did that almost no one disconnected on me, although i could tell they sounded a little annoyed, like they just wanted to talk about something 'else'. i got a few people who said they would sign up, but never did. Then i tried something else. i would wait and let them say "hi" or "hello" first, they i would reply with "hey!" keeping with the 19 year old girl character. If they asked "whats up?" then i had them in my trap. i replied with "not much, just trying to get an ipad! lol, you?" as if i didn't really want to talk about it. They would say something, then ask about the ipad, i would then go down the script and tell them the basics, if they didn't lose interest or call me a scam, then i would give them the link and got four to sign up. In the end i was just getting annoyed with how many people though i was trying to take there money, and every once in a while would just start a new conversation, post my url, disconnect and do it again another 5 times or so, that never seemed to work. I still feel a little guilty about impersonating a girl, and sometimes the people were so nice to me (because i was a 19 year old girl) that i felt kinda bad posing the link because they would call me a scammer (even though they weren't being nice to me, but to a 19 year old girl.) But i never got a green, so i guess its not to bad, nothing good came out of it.

Thanks IFZ, Im hoping this is the one that finally works. Sam, at the moment i'm only targeting my college campus. my site is actually called "ipadmtsac", Mt Sac is the name of my school. I might make different sites, or change the name of this one after the school dries up, its just a tumblr blog with one post. i know im not really suposted to post it here, but here it is. i'm aware of a few of the spelling errors and the fact that i say 2 videos when i really have three, its on my list of stuff to change.

The next thing i want to look into if this doesn't work is SEO, i dont really know how to set it up, but it sounds pretty effective.

hopefully 21 reffs will roll right in (although thats what i said when i tried omegle, and craigslist, so...)

Oh, never knew about the 5 min thing, oh well..

I havent found a template yet, so i'm making my own, after i folded up a sheet its got less room then i though it would. I'm thinking just having a few sentences each page, and telling them to visit my site for more info on each subject. Cant wait to see your idea! i ordered 150 business cards about a week ago, they should be in any day now!

This is an example of a 'fold out' card I have.
However this isn't really a business card, but the design could easily be put for use as a business card

This Is what it appears to be.

But then..

Oh..and then!

Seems like a innovative idea... the only drawback is if you were to make them yourself think how time comsuming it will be to fold them up ... but hay it's worth a try if it can get you greens!

Cheers ollie!

I had a go at the original idea... Worked 1st time, I'm impressed with myself

Gunna use the template I now have to print some ideas and hopefully... Fingers crossed... They all fall into place when folded! Bit tricky though as some pages are double sided, upside-down etc!!

Cheers guys for the ideas! Certainly more interesting than a plain bizcard!

dang, that world cup one is slick, i love it. i've been folding papers all day trying to come up with lots of ideas. Still trying to figure the 16 page template out in photoshop, i think i'm almost there, but just like mj said, its upside down, double sided and everything else.. As for time consumption, i plan to do this while reading textbooks, or watching tv or something like that, after the first 30 or so i think i will have the motions down so i wouldn't really have to look at the papers.

Will need to do the same as well... Need to design me a little book. Although 16 pages seems way to many, maybe a 8 paged one, with the first and last being front and back cover (so 6 pages of concise info).

I would like to try something like this as well with an ipod touch.

Im guessing it just opens up, but i might need to go to a print shop and get some tougher laminated paper for it.

as for an 8 page booklet, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh1W15BWCUk

Yep, I'm pretty nifty with my origami and know a few techniques...

And yet again, another good idea, if you plan to make a fold out thingy, then the front could be an iPod (Touch, Nano [the previous version]), iPhone etc. Would look fun and should pick up way more interest!

Or if you plan to make a business card (standard ones), you could try and design it so that one side is the iPod etc. whilst the other side has your info.

Might be hard to design though, and could be a bit time consuming (unless you find a company that'll do it for you for cheap(ish)). Oh, and it'll cost you a small amount (paper, ink etc.) if you decide to make it look and feel decent (more decent then by not using) and use card, colour ink etc.

iFZ
