2D Barcode

Has anyone applied a 2D Barcode to their business cards or leaflets? If so has this lead to an increase of referrals?

I'm thinking of applying one to my literature so peeps can take a snapshot with their phones etc!

Can you link a website to a 2d barcode? Why would they want/need to?! How many computers can read a barcode (or phones for that matter)?!

You can download an App on iphones that read 2D barcodes, that links to your website or your personal details, if you look at Jokerz Avatar and take a pic of it you'll see what I mean!

You'll notice a lot of products (pepsi) or adverts now have these

Some phone applications can read barcodes, but they are for products and not websites. Surely they would take a picture of the website URL if they wanted to visit the website and wanted to remember it.

Also, it might not work for some websites. E.g. a free iPhone website were you need an iPhone to take the picture of the barcode.

That was mentioned on CSI: New York IIRC.

Instead of a product code the barcode is a sort of coded URL. Take a picture of the barcode, the app reads it like a normal barcode scanner and gives back the URL.

lol... that's what I thought... if you had a phone that could do that (ie an iPhone) why would you want a free iPhone?!

But then that's being very narrow... they may want an XBox etc!

But still, I hate viewing websites on my phone... and it also means they're more likely not to sign up...

my reasoning:
Get card, check on phone... to small to read properly, looks a bit dodgy, gotta sign up to something... throw away card

Get card, go home, find card in pocket, check on computer, wow - pretty pictures and links and stuff, sign up, YAY!

It's certainly got potential though... I'm thinking maybe a business card with JUST a 2D barcode on so they get intrigued?!!

But once its on your phone, its stored so they will be able to call up the web address when they get home and no doubt the next gen ipads will have a camera added!

I've created my barcode. Shame I don't have my Blackberry on me and I need 22 greens for my iPhone 4.

I got laughed at too much so not had a chance to get it working yet!

I used 2d sense and it didn't work!

That's ALOT more than I was expecting!!

It works!!

Thought I'd have to take the pic, but it just registered when it had focused, showed me the domain name and then has an option to "Go Online"

May have to put this into use!!

(Edit: except it's zoomed into my site and wont zoom out!)

Just a thought, if you are a member of some other forums then you could make it your avatar and see if anyone goes onto it.

You can make another directory just for this to test to.

E.g. www.[yourwebsite].co.uk/barcode/

No-one else will be able to access this website unless they read the barcode.
