Ok, I propose a new set of websites. Using a persuasion technique known as REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY.

As I am sure most of you are aware, reverse psychology is the advocacy of a belief or behaviour which is opposite to the one desired, with the expectation that this approach will encourage the subject of persuasion to do what is desired, the opposite of what is suggested.

For example, in my signature is a link IN RED which quite clearly states "DO NOT CLICK". However, what I really want people to do is click this link. A total of 201 unique visitors have clicked on this link.

So that is 201 people doing what I have advocated against doing. Once finding themselves on the page, I have asked visitors to leave a message, only 36 have done what I have asked.

This makes 201 people doing what they were told not to, and 36 doing what I told them to once on the page.

This technique relies on the psychological phenomenon of reactance. A person has a negative emotional response in reaction to being persuaded, and hereby choose the the option which is being advocated against.

SO WHAT AM I PROPOSING?

- Simple. Let's start to use reverse psychology to get sign ups on FreebieJeebies. A nice series of BRIGHT RED BUTTONS, advising the user NOT TO SIGN UP, and let's see what happens!

A guy did that at work when we were getting our pictures taken. I didn't particularly want my picture taken so was being a misery. But he just kept telling me not to smile and I couldn't help but do exactly that.

Oh no, I was going to act as the "Controlled Variable". I would continue to promote FreebieJeebies, whilst all of you guys "Demoted" them, and see what is better after say a year?

To be fair, Having a DO not click to your website as it were is a good idea, because people will, and then will probably read your website, so your targetting a universal audience really rather than just people who want free stuff.
However, I think a button saying DO NOT SIGN UP would not work. As people have already had their curiosity fulfilled, and ultimately, dont want it, so are clickin do not sign me up.

So, DON NOT CLICK HERE to get people on to your site yes.
But
DO NOT SIGN UP, I would say no, but hey thats just me. Go for it and see what results you get.
