Is this stupid?

Well, iv been toying with various referral ideas, and i'm wondering what you think of this: Well most days I receive 10+ random adds on my ps3 (CoD4 of course) as I tend to be top of 90% of matches and my ID is very noticable - llllllllllllllllllllll (looks like a barcode in lobbies and at maximum rank/prestige) Either the messages are blank, or they say "Name FTW" or "Sweet ID" etc.

If I was to send them a link to my site, saying if they complete an offer they will be entered to a tournament to win this account (it would take most people 10 game days to get up to this rank) This may be ridiculous, tell me what you think please!

A tournament, I like it, cocky users will get too sure of themselves and want to enter just to show off. Nice idea.

No as you would be lying to them because I doubt you would give it to them plus you can't give ten people the same account.
Just try and use your status to your advantage and become friends with them and genuinely get them interested instead of trying to con them.

It will get you further.

I think you might of misread or something. There will be a tournament, and the winer gets the account.

Ah so i did.
I think it would be much better for him to just use his "celeb" status to get people to be his friend and then just talk to them as a person and get them interested.

Modern warfare 2 is out pretty soon, nobody is going to want the account once that hits the market.

As much as I agree with your first paragraph, there will be still a legion of followers to COD4.

why not make a site, part hints and tips to help people get to "your level" and part freebie related. e.g. telling them they can get games from fj like new releases?

Unless your unfamilliar with COD you'll know that won't work very well. It's very much a skill game, not strategics so there isn't many tips or hints you can give really.

Wow, I sounded a lot more obnoxious than I meant to. I have no problem giving away the account as its only a secondary one. My main one with my trophies is safe with me.

Cancel that. New plan:

Buy a catchy domain, and make the domain my ID for MW2! ie. _____-____.com or _____-____(DOT)com depending on restrictions. Surely if I can come top/ highly ranked in most games people will be attracted to the site. Once again tell me if i'm being stupid.

Hmm but surely there is something about this in the ps3 Terms and Conditions? You might even be banned from playing MW2 by activision so all that effort will be pointless.

Why would they do that, it's not doing nobody no harm, it may even earn them more money!

They won't get anything from it, so they won't allow it.

^ unfortunately most sites won't allow you to advertise any site that won't link to them in return (or something they can get out of it). It's like giving away money. Most won't do it =)
