Paying for backlinks?

Just a few questions, if anyone has any experience with this then your help would be appreciated.

1) Is it possible to pay somebody to build backlinks for you?

2) Has anyone tried it and is it viable?

3) Could anybody recommend somebody who could do this?

Thanks.

Basically, a backlink is a link that points to your website. Backlinks are good for google rankings.

There are sites that will do all of your SEO for you but it costs hundreds of pounds and when you stop using them you'll quickly find your site drop down the rankings. They are SEO experts and many of them will even guarantee you a top ranking on Google, but simply put it would never be economical for you to use them for a freebie site. They mainly target businesses and people only use them a) as a short-term measure or b) because their business turns over a lot of cash yet they dont employ an SEO team themselves.

Building backlinks is the only real hard part of making your site work - if it were easy then every Exceemer would be doing quite well. That said, once you have the correct amount of backlinks you should be quite high in the rankings, although your site will still need maintenance and updating or Google will drop it again.

There are a number of good SEO books available online as free PDF downloads. Have a look into it but if you don't have the time/effort to build backlinks for a few months then maybe a website isn't the best method for you.

Thanks Barcelonic. I'll probably just forget about paying for it then, and carry on as I am, building and building!

It is a long drawn-out job but I don't mind doing it and waiting. The only thing that bothers me is not knowing if I'm going about it right, and the feeling that I might even be wasting my time sometimes!

I'd be interested in seeing some of these SEO books if you could provide a link?

But I imagine they say something along the lines of:

a) build a website.
b) build backlinks.
c) build backlinks.
d) build backlinks.

etc etc!

I've looked into buying books about SEO, but what I've found (through customer reviews) is that however good the book is, SEo is always changing, so it will be out of date before you even read it.
Best to read off the internet where updated more regularly (I use Learn. Rank. Dominate. : SEO Book.com)
