I have decided to make a new freebie website, like most people on here And I was fortunate enough to get snatch a really good one

freeipods.co.uk

I would have assumed someone would have had it already since free ipods are two important words in the freebie community, and I imagined it would be a fairly important domain name, in search engine terms. Because alot of people will be searching for "Free ipods" in google

So... YAY

Oh, and i'm not spamming my site.. the site's not even up yet just wanted to show you the new domain I have

ps. 36,100,000 hits for free ipods on google

for the URL to be keyword relevant, it has to be seperated, so free-ipods or free_ipods. I don't think if its one word, its helpful for SEO purposes...

I could be wrong

Search "free ipods" into google (seperated) and you'll find you ARE wrong :P

freeipods.org.uk - no.1 on results
ipods.freepay.com - no.2 on results
freeipodsetc.co.uk - no.3 on results

And the list goes on..

it's still possible to get high rankings with keywords even if they are not in the domain, but for it to be beneficial, they have to be seperated, else googlebot will read it as one word, even if it is in bold

Using Keywords in your Domain Name is good for SEO
Your domain name is the first thing the search engine spiders see and their first clue to what your site is about. So, ideally, you want your domain to include keywords. So, if you sell drill bits, and the domain name Drillbits.com.au - drill bits Resources and Information. is available, then this would be a good domain name, wouldn’t it? A better name than www.raycostanza.com.au. But perhaps not ideal.

SEO, Domain Names and Hyphens or Dashes
When Google looks at www.drillbits.com.au, it can read the words “drill” and “bits”, so it will know this site is likely to have something to do with drill bits. So, that’s good. However, if Google looks at www.drill-bits.com.au or www.drill.bits.com.au, it will rate those names higher than www.drillbits.com.au.

. Dash-separated keywords in the domain name. You may tell the tool to also check for domain name variations where terms are separated by dashes: e.g. not only 'webmarketingexpert.com', but also 'web-marketing-expert.com' etc. Domains separated by dashes are better for search engine rankings, because 'webmarketingexpert.com' will only help you rank for the entire word 'webmarketingexpert', which is hardly popular among the searching audience... whereas with 'web-marketing-expert.com' you will rank better for keywords 'web', 'marketing', and 'expert'.

nickjett is just really nicenickjett is just really nice
A lot of people come on this forum showing off there great domain name they have snapped up. But apart from being able to remember the address easier, i really doubt that random people type in www.freeipods.co.uk or whatever in the address bar instead of using a search engine.

Its is a good domain name but dont expect loads of free traffic!

I think the main advantage to the domain will be in offline advertising, as freeipods is a very simple name to remember - but I've heard that flyers, business cards etc don't bring in many greens anyway...

I reckon you were very lucky, the person who owned that domain hadn't renewed it yet, so itwas available

I feel sorry for the previous owner

Think it had recently expired. Nice grab.
A lot of great relevent free links already pointing to your site. You should find it quite easy to rank.
Also it's an old domain and age certainly helps a lot.

just to clarify, I wan't being negative, sorry if I came across so, just wanted to point out that I had read some domain names are more useful to SEO than others.

however, we can all see that domain name can't be that important, since furbs is 1st for some killer keywords!
