Local paper

How much do you reckon it would cost to put an ad in a local town's paper for a freebie site? And does anyone think that it would be effective in bring greenage? Or would the money be better spent on getting quality backlinks to your site?

Re: Local paper

It should be free mate, unless you mean like a full page/ half page/ quarter page type ad

classifieds should be free though and people will pay attention to them just as much as the big ads

Re: Local paper

A shop near me where all the schoolkids go lets you put up an A4 poster for £2.25pm. I'm going to try a freepay site one last time and see if the ringtone offer is persuasive enough!

Re: Local paper

Good idea about the shop window. If I shell out £150, does anyone expect that I could recover the money + more in terms of greenage OR would I be safer spending the money on getting a good search engine rank?

Re: Local paper

Unsure, i mean it would appear legit to anyone sceptical as it would look like a trustworthy, official advertisement.

If you are willing to fork out £150 as the risk then go for it, maybe itll be worth it

Re: Local paper

I tried posting an ad in my local paper as items under £100 are free.... so me thinking an item that is free, should, in theory be free right?

Wrong... they diverted me to some number to pay for the ad....so bollocks to them!

In my opinion, if you can afford to lose £150 then go for it. Neither a newspaper ad or backlinks are going to be guaranteed, so if you can go into it with the mentality that it will be ineffective, then anything that does come in is a bonus.
