![]() | Duplicate IP Addresses for GENUINE referralsHi, My sister-in-law as a genuine interest in joining the lovefilm.com offer. Problem is that, at the moment her PC don't work and so regularly uses our computer to use the internet. I have heard that one of the verification checks that is performed by freebie sites is that each referral is from a PC with a unique IP address as a means of spotting acts of fraud. Now I am no expert when it comes to IP addresses but I assume that my IP address is allocated automatically by my ISP and is fixed - meaning that if I refer my sister-in-law and she uses this PC, the same IP address will appear in the same two offers. Is this a problem? If so, I presume that one should never use a public PC to complete offers as there is a risk that someone else has used it to complete offers in the past which could result in one or both of the accounts being put on hold or DQ'd. Also, I am thinking about starting up a conga line at work. Again, not sure about IP address mapping but I have read that your internal IP address on your work PC is unlikely to be the same IP address that is shown to the "outside world". Does this therefore mean that everyone from my company will appear as having the one IP address. I guess not!?! Any comments please. |

![]() | Re: Duplicate IP Addresses for GENUINE referralsHi Gladstone, If you start a conga at work, if you work in a large office you will likely use a proxy server. In this case it is highly likely that all you referals will appear from the same IP address. You are right about your sister in law, so she will have to sign up from a different PC\Broadband connection. The ISP will allocate you an IP every time you connect (DHCP lease - Or when your router connects, you could have a lease for up to 10-20 days or more, depending on your ISP) you may find your IP will change from time to time anyway, but being a 'layman' (no offence intended) you probably would never notice. I am new to the freebies thing myself, but I do know all about IP's as I work as an IT Administrator |
