Using websites...

Hi to all,

It seems to me like the main way of getting a decent amount of referrals without having a ginormous downline is by using a website such as the one below:

free ipod touch online - don't know if this is anyone on exceems???

Anyway, the site above is just an example - its not an amazing site, but the traffic must be phenomenal - i found the site by typing free ipod into google - imagine how many people do that a day!!!

Anyway, the question is not how to create a website, but how to build up its SEO, of which I am a novice...

Please could any experienced members reply to this thread - I am sure that it would be very useful to everyone.

And no replies like "Hard Work" - I know its not going to be instant

Thanks v. much

Not really - having looked around for a while, this has only been discussed in passing...

I suspect that the only way that people such as detox can rake in 36 greens in one day is by having a mega good SEOd site...

Could someone lay out what you need to do in a clear method - the site above is exactly...

For instance your site the_saint - how many greens do u get off that every week?

No exaggeration there are thousands of things you can do to improve your SEO, the internet is your friend in this case, not exceem.

The general rule is if you have a good site with quality content and some links coming in from authoritative sites, you will see your site climb.

Re: Using websites...

cheers for the info...

However, using forums such as the one you pmed me is chucking me into the middle of the Atlantic and expecting me to make it to land...

There is so much techie stuff that would take months to sift through - its like talking to robots

Is the general idea that you:

1. Buy a domain name - don't use freewebs/blogger etc.
2. Buy a hosting package
3. Add you own content etc.
4. Get links and backlinks to other sites
5. Submit it to Google/yahoo/msn etc. etc.

Anything else mega important?

That's about it, the probem is - as with all methods - that everyone is trying to out SEO each other and so is not going to give you a clear step by step guide as it will prejudice their position. I know you don't want to hear it, but it takes time, effort, research, and often trial and error to get well ranked.

I've bought a .co.uk domain name pointing to a blogspot page (meta tags, keywords, description have all been put into the domain details through the host's control panel), would this be effective enough or will I need to create an "actual" website?

Try using WEBSEO or IBP to check on your current SEO standings. IBP is particularly good as it gives some good advice on what you need to do to improve. Its not cheap though. WEBSEO is free

Re: Using websites...

Hi!

I actually perform Search Engine Optimization as part of my job as a freelance web designer. The first thing that I think anyone should know when wanting to optimize their site so it performs better is that you need to really research the keywords you're going to target. There is no point going for the most searched for keywords/keyphrases as there are companies who spend thousands to be ranked highly for those terms. There is no point going for keywords/keyphrases with a long tail either or anything too specific.

To give you an example of a website I have optimized, my own. I optimized my site for 'freelance web designer' mainly - though I did throw in a few 'freelance search engine optimization' terms in the index aswell. Note that by doing this I doubled up on the term 'freelance' which added weight to both 'freelance web designer' and 'freelance search engine optimization'. In under a month of optimizing my website I'd gone from 0 visitors a day to 30. That mightn't sound like much but for a new website that's an achievement. That is also without paying for traffic of any kind.

The best tool I have found for choosing which keywords to target is the following free tool from WordTracker.

Free Keyword Suggestion Tool from Wordtracker

To give you a quick rundown on what you should do to optimize your website, you need to focus on title tags (limit them to 65 characters and always put your keyword at the beginning), <H1> tags (using your keyword), <B> tags (using your keywords), balance the META keywords and META description (in other words don't spam, limit the values you have in these fields) and try and get a decent number of backlinks (links pointing to your website using the keyword as the anchor text).

I hope this helps!

If anyone wants to ask me anything quick about SEO I'm happy to offer advice via private messaging. Please do not contact me asking me to help optimize your website for free as refusal often offends. I do however perform SEO for a fee and if that interests you, see the link in my signature.
