Help on how to promote a website?

I have made a website, uploaded it to freewebs...but i'm not really getting any visitors! No Visitors = No Greens! lol...despratly want to get my free xbox as mine broke and i have no warrenty

I have added meta tags and description, but this doesn't seem to have helped.

Anyone got any advice?

Make sure you are definitely on Google's index by manually adding yourself to the list of sites they crawl.

Add your URL to Google

Better still you can create a Google account and sign up for Webmaster Tools.

It allows you to track your site and shows you what search phrases are finding your site, and what rank you have in the index

You can also create a Google Analytics account that gives you even more details about who's visiting your site and where they come to your site from.

In correct, i was ranking number 4 for the term "free ipod touch" within 6 days. Also I didnt submit to search engines, just got over sites to link to me and let search engine spiders discover me naturally.

Submit your site to digg, reddit etc should speed things up!

That is the last thing I would ever recommend to get listed by any search engine, get other sites to link to you. MUCH quicker!!!
