Leaflet Legal Advice

I am considering handing out leaflets on a website I am going to make around Belfast city centre. There is a great pedestrian zone with loads of shops around it and it would be great for handing out leaflets. I seen a girl handing out leaflets for a hair salon nearby so I was wondering can anyone do this or do you need permission to give out any form of leaflet? It would be a great opportunity as you could hand out 1000 in an hour!

It's not my area of expertise but I would be very surprised if you needed any kind of license or permission to hand out leaflets in a public place. A shopping center perhaps, but I would think you will be fine - just don't harrass people too much!

Thanks a million sainty! This should be quite the money maker. I'm gonna make pocket sized leaflets and hand them out saying 'Free Nintendo Wii?' and the likes.

once i was working in night club, and time to time had to give leaflets in street. so u don't need any permiscion, but most of super markets,shops don't allow to do inside there premises

I should be grand then, it's a public pedestrian zone area with shops all around it just. People walking by in the thousands!

Quality over quantity: If I were you, I wouldn't concentrate too much on getting as many out as you can, as most people throw leaflets in the bin and those that don't may believe it to be bull...poo.

A better idea may be to address people who look like they maybe interested and tell them a few things about how it works. If they look engaged, hand them your leaflet, and if you can't tell, ask them. Many people will tell you if they're not interested, so you don't need to waste you're money on them.

Trust me that's just not gonna happen in Belfast lol. You'd be lucky if they looked at you when they take the leaflet. I'm relying on them shoving it in their pockets and then finding it later at home.

Sure I'll keep you all updated, if it's any good I'll let you know. I was thinking about doing the Game idea but I don't want to stand too close as it's kind of stealing trade and probably illegal.

Haha, might get arrested for breaking a different law then.

By the way I forgot to say, I won't actually be doing this until I make the website, buy a printer and make the leaflets lol. I'm considering making a flash website using director mx 2004. We have access to it in our labs and I'm getting used to it. I just found out that the director movies can be used with shockwave to add to websites. That might be a bit more interesting and more profitable than a plain old website.
