Retrospective Linking

Before I begin, I have went through the relevant support ticket procedures and am not looking for a response from Giveaway Network. I'm merely asking what everyone else's view is on this.

On Wednesday I sent my brother my referral link (he still lives with my parents, I do not, so different IP, computer, ID, address, bank details obviously). Anyway, it's now Saturday and he still hasn't showed up as a referral. My support ticket was responded to (helpful and detailed response) and I have been told that there may be a number of issues related to the computer that added it. I'm also told that retrospective linking is not possible, which is a bit of a bummer because FreebieJeebies offer this in legitimate cases. So I'm now faced with the possibility of losing a good green (well it's looking more like a certainty - unless there's a big lag in a referral appearing on GiveAway Network - first time using it so don't know).

Has anyone ever experienced a (in their opinion) unexplainable green referral that just doesn't show up?

It's got me thinking though, if it happened in this instance, how many referral links from our websites go through without us knowing it? Maybe it's cynical attitude is down to having not received a freebie yet but at this stage I think it's a valid question.

Re: Retrospective Linking

Well I'd have checked he was under your account as yellow before he went and completed the offer.

What do you mean by retrospective linking?

I think he means adding his bro to his list of yellows/greens after he has signed up (seemingly) without going through his ref link.

Where a referral signs up, completes an offer, but he doesn't appear in your referrals. I was told once that the two accounts could be linked.

So, if my friend followed my link, signed up and completed an offer but didn't appear on my referral list..... he could be made to do so at a later stage. I know this one could be a bit of a nuisance for admin but if it's a 100% genuine case?

I was sitting beside him when he did it so he didn't mess it up, which is the only reason I have raised this matter. If I wasn't 100% confident it wouldn't be an issue because I'd have assumed he'd done something wrong.

Imagine how corrupt it would all be if you could just claim someone was your mate and get the accounts linked every time you asked!

I agree... but you could have phrased it a bit better...

I reckon at least (goes to check stats) 7 ps3 greens have signed up but are not showing....

I can't imagine it would be a major problem. If it wasn't someone you knew, then you would have to guess their e-mail address before you could ask for them to be linked (since they wouldn't show as a yellow).

Same here...

While some networks do offer this in some cases, I can fully understand why it can't be done - and in 99% of the cases I agree with the reasons to.

When a referral does not show up as expected in someone's referral list, my first guess as to why not would be "user error" - the code that tracks the referral id is simple in nature, and to put it simply is impossible to break in normal circumstances.

Since I'm new to this, I'm not really sure what a walk through is?

Well it worked ok with a FreebieJeebies offer he did and I got my referral.

I'm going to get my sis to do the same offer to see it works.

That said, Chiggles made a very valid point earlier, stating that I should have checked that they appeared on my ref list before they completed the offer. I will make sure they do this in future - probably a useful pointer to anyone new to this. Cheers Chiggles.
